Falcons Host Early Bird Open To Begin 2023

Bowling Green Track and Field hosts second consecutive home meet to start New Year
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons track and field team returns to action for the 2023 portion of the indoor season, hosting the Falcon Early Bird Open. The meet will be held in the Perry Field House on Saturday, Jan. 14. Field events begin at 12 p.m. ET and running events start at 1 p.m. ET. This is the second of three home meets for BGSU, who hosted the Tom Wright Open on Dec. 10 and will host the MAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25.

Early Bird Open Information
The Falcons are among six teams competing at the Early Bird Open and are one of five that compete in the MAC. Conference opponents Buffalo, Kent State, and Eastern Michigan will have competitors from their men's and women's teams, with BGSU and Central Michigan competing in women's events. Dayton will also be participating in the women's events.

Field events begin at 12 p.m. ET, starting with the men's shot put. That will be followed by the women's shot put, then the women's weight throw and men's weight throw. Simultaneously, the men's high jump, women's pole vault, and women's long jump will begin. Those will be followed by the women's high jump, men's pole vault, and men's long jump.

All running events will feature the women's race first, then the men's race, except in the 60 hurdles finals. Events begin at 1 p.m. ET, starting with prelims in the 60 hurdles. At 1:30, the 60 prelims will be held, followed by the mile starts. From there, the 400 will be raced, then the 60 hurdles finals and 60 finals. After that, the teams will compete in the 800, 200, and 3K. The competition closes with the 4x400 relay. A full schedule of events with start times is available HERE. Heat sheets can be viewed HERE.

Parking is available for free at Perry Field House. Admission is also free, but fans are encouraged to bring monetary donations or non-perishable items that will be donated to the Falcon Food Pantry. Breaking Down Bowling Green
The Falcons have already competed once this season, hosting the Tom Wright Open on Dec. 10. In their collegiate debut, freshmen DaMya Barker and Morgan Patterson took second and third place in the 60 hurdles. Darian Braddix ran the 60 and had a PR of 7.73. Bianca Staples won the high jump (1.70m) and Sabrina Imes won the triple jump (12.04m), with both making their NCAA debuts. Jemeila Hunter won the 400 with a time of 58.79, which is the second-fastest of her career. The 4x400 realy team of Barker, Braddix, Ashley Kisor, and Staples won in 4:00.93, which was over six seconds faster than the runner-up. Additionally, Katerina Shuble ran the 3K at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 9. She ran a PR of 9:36.09, the second-fastest time in program history. It was less than half a second shy of the school record and gave her a third-place finish in Allendale.
