Falcons Continue Road Competition With Two Matches in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – The Bowling Green Falcons (1-1, 0-0 MAC) continue the 2023 campaign on the road with two more non-conference matches, both played in Indianapolis. The Falcons play Indianapolis at 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, then return to action the following morning for an 11 a.m. match with Butler.

Last Time Out: Falcons Split Season-Opening Weekend
The Falcons opened the season with a dominant 7-0 victory over Holy Cross, winning all singles and doubles matches. This included the first collegiate win for freshman Leticia Fonseca, who made her collegiate debut. BGSU dropped the following match to UIC, 6-1. Eloise Saraty won at No. 2 Singles for the second consecutive day, while the doubles duo of Lucy Furness and Hannah Neuman also earned their second win of the weekend at the No. 2 spot. For their efforts, Furness and Neuman were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week.

Opponent Outlook
Indianapolis has multiple individuals in the ITA DII rankings, headlined by doubles duo Sofia Sharonova and Anna Novikova (No. 8 nationally, No. 1 in the Midwest region). Novikova is ranked No. 3 in the region and No. 18 in the nation in singles play, sitting one spot behind teammate Lea Carakevic in each poll. Sharanova is No. 12 in the region, while Maissane Aik is No. 14. This will be their first match of the spring.

Butler enters the weekend at 0-3, falling in matches to Cincinnati, Indiana, and Notre Dame. The match with UC was a 4-3 final, with Natalie Boesing winning at No. 1 singles and pairing with Chase Metcalf for a victory at No. 1 doubles. Delaney Schurhamer earned the lone point against Notre Dame, winning at No. 3 singles.
