100-point scorer earns amateur tryout with San Jose affiliate after recording career-high 31 points
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green Hockey forward Chase Gresock has signed an amateur tryout (ATO) contract with the San Jose Barracuda, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Gresock, a native of Powell, Ohio, joined the Falcons for his fifth collegiate season, recording a career-best line of 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points.
Gresock ranked second on the team in assists (20) and points (31) while tying for third in goals (11). Playing at No. 12 Michigan Tech on Feb. 11, he tallied an assist that marked his 100th career point, making him the 78th player to reach the century mark in a Bowling Green sweater. Gresock, Alex Barber, and Taylor Schneider all scored their 100th point in 2023, making the Falcons the only team with three 100-point scorers. The senior led the Falcons in two-assist games with four, including a pair of helpers at #14 Ohio State that were part of his three-point effort. He had six games with multiple points, including a two-goal game against Ferris State on Feb. 4. The forward had a pair of power play goals and ranked third among BGSU forwards with 18 blocked shots. He was fourth on the team with a plus/minus of +4.
Gresock concluded his five-year collegiate career with 46 goals and 58 assists for 104 points, collecting this total in 135 games. He played his first three seasons at Merrimack, then his fourth year at Miami. He is the fifth Falcon to sign a professional contract this year, joining the following players:
2022-23 Falcons in Pro Hockey
Anton Malmstrom – signed with NHL's St. Louis Blues, assigned to AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds
Nathan Burke – signed with ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears, then signed ATO with San Jose Barracuda
Zach Vinnell – signed with ECHL's Indy Fuel
Max Coyle – signed ATO with ECHL's Indy Fuel
Of the five, four transferred to Bowling Green from other institutions. Burke played three years for Minnesota before playing his final two at BGSU. He and Gresock, who came from Merrimack and Miami, will reunite in San Jose, both on ATOs. Vinnell spent three years skating for Merrimack before joining the Falcons as a graduate transfer. He is currently in Indy with Coyle, who signed an ATO with the Fuel after a collegiate career that included a season at Alabama Huntsville and three seasons with Bowling Green.
