Last Time Out: Fonseca Sweeps Singles as Falcons Fall Twice
Bowling Green dropped a pair of conference matches, both by a score of 6-1. On Friday, March 24, the Falcons hosted Miami (OH), with Leticia Fonseca picking up the point with a three-set singles win at No. 5. Also battling to three sets was Hannah Neuman, who fell at No. 3 singles. Two days later, the Falcons lost to Eastern Michigan in their first road MAC match. Fonseca notched her team-best 10th singles win of the spring, winning at No. 6. The freshman has won eight of her last nine matches and holds an 8-2 record when playing at No. 6.
Opponent Outlook
Miami (OH) will be a familiar opponent for the Orange and Brown, as the teams played on March 24 in Perrysburg. The RedHawks won, 6-1, with Bowling Green's point coming from Leticia Fonseca in No. 5 singles. She defeated Jutte Van Hansewyck in a three-set thriller, winning 2-6, 6-3, 10-8. Miami followed that win with a 4-3 victory over Western Michigan. The RedHawks once again took the doubles point, then had singles wins from Laura Rico, Emilia Valentinsson, and Sara Zalukar.
Toledo was ranked No. 63 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, the lone MAC team to be listed. The Rockets enter on a four-match win streak, defeating No. 70 Florida Gulf Coast before taking their first three conference matches. Defending MAC Player of the Year Cassie Alcala has a team-best 13-2 singles record this spring, playing all matches at No. 1. She is backed by Mariona Perez, Shalini Tallamraju, and Sloane Teske, who each have a 12-3 singles record. In doubles, Perez and Teske have a 7-2 record at No. 1, with Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski holding a 7-3 record at No. 2.
Last season, the Falcons dropped both matches to the Rockets, who finished as MAC runner-up. Ioanna Tsadari, Maru Poppe, and Hannah Neuman each won a doubles match, with Neuman tallying a win in singles as well.
