Bowling Green tallies second win in Florida, match program’s longest win streak since 2013
LAKE NONA, Fla. – The Bowling Green Falcons (6-5, 0-0 MAC) extended their win streak to five with a 5-2 victory over the Providence Friars (0-9, 0-0 Big East). After sweeping the doubles round, BGSU picked up four more singles wins to notch their second spring break victory in the last 24 hours.
Bowling Green swept the doubles point to start the day, the second time the Falcons have done so this season. Ioanna Tsadari and Eloise Saraty notched their fifth consecutive win, all of which have come at No. 1. Both players have 11 doubles wins this season, tied for the team lead. Lucy Furness and Hannah Neuman extended their No. 2 doubles record to 5-2 with a 7-5 win. Maru Poppe and Leticia Fonseca recorded their second win as a duo, taking a 6-3 victory at No. 3. BGSU previously swept the doubles matches against Holy Cross College in the season-opener (Jan. 20). The Falcons have a 21-21 doubles record this season, including an 18-15 mark in the spring.
Tsadari carried her momentum into singles, taking a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1. This is her second win in a row, with yesterday's victory at No. 1 having the same score. Lucy Furness also recorded her second win in a row, tallying a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3. This marks her 15th total victory of the season. Also reaching a milestone with her singles win was Maru Poppe, who had a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 to secure her 25th career victory. At No. 6, Leticia Fonseca earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory, improving her record at No. 6 to 6-1. The freshman has tallied a singles win in the last five matches.
This five-match win streak is the longest since March 2018, when BGSU won five consecutive matches in 14 days. The Falcons notched wins over UIC, Wayne State, Northern Illinois, Ball State, and Akron, with four of those five matches being played at home. The longest win streak before that was a school-record 12 matches, set by the 2013 squad.
