BGSU Volleyball Adds Two Outside Hitter Transfers

BGVB Welcomes Jordan Newblatt, Paige Parlanti
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program and head coach Danijela Tomic announced the signings of Jordan Newblatt and Paige Parlanti on Thursday (Feb. 8). Newblatt, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, will come to the Falcons as a graduate transfer from Marist College. Parlanti, a 6-foot outside hitter, will join BGSU as a junior from Vincennes University.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jordan and Paige to our program and that they chose to transfer and continue their collegiate careers as BGSU Falcons," said Tomic. "They bring maturity and experience to our young team as go-to players at their current schools. Moreover, their current and past coaches spoke highly of their character and who they are, not just as players but as teammates and people. As the saying goes, "Rising tide lifts all boats," and we believe that Jordan, Paige, and the rest of our incoming players will raise our team's level of play and competitiveness."
Jordan Newblatt, Outside Hitter, Clarkston, Mich. (Clarkston // Marist College)
Newblatt arrives in Bowling Green after four seasons with Marist College. With the Red Foxes, Newblatt earned All-MAAC First Team in 2023 and 2021 while being named All-MAAC Second Team in 2022. She was also a two-time CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District recipient as well as three-time MAAC All-Academic. During the 2021 season, Newblatt earned AVCA National Player of the Week Honors. While with Marist, she registered 37 double-doubles, including 11 during the 2023 season.
"Jordan doesn't shy away from competition and is driven to be the best she can be for the team," said Tomic. "Her best matches at Marist College came against the toughest competition, which is a sign of the competitive spirit we look for in our players. We knew that Jordan would be an excellent fit for us once she came on a visit, and we met her and her parents. Jordan's values align with our program's values, and we can't wait to see her growth and contribution to our success next season."
With Marist, Newblatt appeared in 80 matches and 303 sets over four years. She landed 1,022 kills, including 384 in 2021, 301 in 2022 and 296 in 2023. Newblatt nearly reached 1,000 career digs as well, currently at 905, surpassing the 300-mark in both 2021 and 2022. She filled out her stat line with 88 career blocks, 71 aces and 61 assists. Newblatt comes from an athletic family. Her brother, Stewart, played football for Columbia and her sister, Addison, is committed to play volleyball at Fordham. Newblatt also competed with Michigan Elite.
"I chose to attend BGSU because as soon as I stepped onto the campus I felt welcomed by both the coaches and players," said Newblatt. "The competitive culture BGSU has to offer is something that I would love to be a part of. I will be put into an environment that pushes me daily and it will allow me to grow as both a student and an athlete. I am excited to finish my career as a Falcon!"
Paige Parlanti, Outside Hitter, Las Vegas, Nev. (Desert Oasis // Vincennes University)
Parlanti will join the Orange and Brown after two seasons with Vincennes University. With the Trailblazers, Parlanti was named NJCAA Second-Team All-America, a two-time Volleyball.com All-American, a two-time NJCAA Region 24 Player of the Year and led her team to back-to-back NJCAA Region 24 championships. During the 2022 season, Parlanti finished the year third in the nation for points with 633.0, fourth for kills with 535 (4.05 per set) and 16th for digs with 538 (4.08 per set).
"Paige has a quiet confidence and competitive drive that made her successful at a junior college level, and we have no doubt she can be successful at the next level with our program," said Tomic. "Paige is an all-around volleyball player who has played different positions and is used to carrying a big load on her teams. She is also a great teammate with a selfless attitude who puts the team first. We are excited to see her thrive as a Falcon."
With the Trailblazers, Parlanti appeared in 72 matches and 250 sets over two seasons. She recorded 1,049 kills, landing over 500 in each season. Parlanti added 946 digs to her career stat line, including 538 during the 2022 campaign. During her two seasons, Parlanti registered 141 blocks, 105 aces and 13 assists to complete her stat line. She also had a decorated high school career that included leading Nevada 4A in kills (348), breaking the school-record for kills in a match multiple times and earning All-Region First Team honors. As for club, she competed with the Vegas Aces. Her sister, Sophia, currently plays volleyball for the University of Indianapolis.
"I chose to attend BGSU for many reasons, but mainly because of the volleyball team and the culture they have created on and off the court," said Parlanti. "I am also very excited about the fire administration program."
