NOTE OF THE DAY
• Senior Peyton Dolejs, as mentioned, had a single in the sixth inning. She increased her current hitting streak to 10 games, the longest of her career. Dolejs had a nine-game streak in 2022.
• Her streak is the longest by a Falcon since Greta L'Esperance had a 13-game streak in the 2021 campaign.
ALSO NOTEWORTHY
• Dolejs has batted .514 during her 10-game hitting streak, going 18-for-35 at the plate during that stretch. She has raised her batting average 105 points, to .302, in that time.
• Aaralyn Nogay reached base three times on Sunday, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Nogay has reached base in 11 consecutive contests, tying for the longest such streak by a Falcon this season. Reagan Williamson reached base in 11-straight games earlier in 2024.
• No Falcon has had a longer reached-base streak in two years, since L'Esperance reached base in 18 consecutive games in 2022
• Williamson's homer on Sunday was her team-leading fifth of the season and the 14th of her BGSU career. She has moved into a tie for 13th place on the Falcon career list.
BGSU-KSU – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Golden Flashes loaded the bases in the first inning, but BGSU starter Emma Denison got Megan Claerhout to hit a grounder to Taylor Behrendt at third, with Behrendt stepping on the bag for an inning-ending force play.
• In the top of the second, Reagan Williamson turned on a Megan Nuechterlein pitch and sent a ball over the fence, just inside the left-field foul pole, for a one-out solo homer that gave the Falcons the lead.
• KSU put two runners on base with one out in the home half of the second, but Denison struck out Bri Despines before getting Alexandria Whitmore to hit a popup to short for the third out.
• Aaralyn Nogay smashed a ball over the centerfielder's head for a stand-up double with two outs in the third, but was stranded there.
• KSU took the lead in the bottom of the third, when Julia Mazanec singled with one out, and Emily Lippe followed with a two-run homer to left. The Flashes got a runner to second after a walk, a fielder's choice and a stolen base, before centerfielder Peyton Dolejs made a diving catch of Brynn Libler's fly ball in shallow center for the third out.
• The hosts added to the lead in the fourth, aided by a pair of errors. After back-to-back singles began the inning, the Falcons got an out at the plate. But, with runners at the corners, a throw to second on a stolen-base attempt trickled into center, allowing the runner on third to score. Two batters later, Lippe's fielder's-choice grounder plated a teammate to give the hosts a 4-1 lead.
• Ashley Chevalier singled in the fifth, but a Makailah Dees line drive was hit directly at the second baseman, who caught it to begin an inning-ending double play.
• KSU got a bases-loaded, two-run single from Savannah Wing in the fifth to make it a 6-1 game.
• BGSU loaded the bases in the sixth, as Nogay led off by walking on four pitches, Dolejs followed with a single, and Behrendt's one-out hit put three Falcons on base. But, Nuechterlein got a popup to first and a fly ball to right to escape the jam.
• Chevalier had her second hit of the game in the seventh, while Nogay walked on four pitches for the second time in as many innings. But, BGSU could not cut into the KSU lead.
• The Flashes had a 10-6 lead in the hits department. Chevalier, as mentioned, went 2-for-3 for the Falcons, while Nogay had a hit and walked twice.
UP NEXT
• The Falcons will step outside of MAC play for a midweek doubleheader at Youngstown State. BGSU battles the Penguins on Wednesday (April 24) with first pitch of game one at 3:00 p.m.
