August 22, 2024 | Volleyball
BGVB’s Dream BiG To Follow At 6 p.m.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will begin their 2024 campaign on Saturday (Aug. 24) with an exhibition match against Oakland University. The match is set for a 12 p.m. first serve at the Stroh Center and will be free to attend. Due to move-in for BGSU students, parking will be available in the north lot of the Stroh as well as Lots 13 and 20, off of Stadium Drive, and will also be free. The Stroh Center this season will be a cashless venue as well, including tickets and concessions.
Â
The matchup against Oakland will be the 23rd meeting between the programs, although it won't count towards the official records. The Falcons have won the last two regular season meetings against the Golden Grizzlies, winning 3-0 in 2021 and 3-2 in 2019. The Falcons are coming off a 19-13 season last year, including an 11-7 conference record. BGVB won 12 of their last 14 matches, advancing to the MAC Championship for a fifth-straight season, but fell short to Western Michigan.
Â
Bowling Green will enter the season with a mixed roster, welcoming six freshmen and three transfers to the program, while returning nine players from last year. Lauryn Hovey leads the list of returners, coming off her second All-MAC First Team selection in her two collegiate seasons. Jessica Andrews also returns and was named All-MAC Second Team following the 2022 campaign. Â
Â
The regular season will start for the Orange and Brown at home with three matches in the Best Western Invitational, taking on 2023 NIVC participant Chicago State (Aug. 30), Illinois (Aug. 31), and Cincinnati (Sep. 1). The Falcons will then travel to Dayton for the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational and will face UMBC (Sep. 6), Dayton (Sep. 7), and Wright State (Sep. 8), all of whom participated in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
