BGSU-WICHITA STATE – HOW IT HAPPENED
• WSU starter Ava Sliger struck out the first two hitters of the game, but Hannah Hunt then reached on an infield error. The junior took second on the play, and two pitches later, she came around to score on a Cameron Kaufman single through the right side of the infield.
• The Shockers quickly tied the game on back-to-back walks and a run-scoring single by Jodie Epperson. But, after another walk loaded the bases, Scarlet Anderson came on in relief and got back-to-back ground balls to third baseman Addie Martin that resulted in back-to-back force plays at the plate. Then, Kaufman grabbed a line drive for the third out.
• The Shockers put five runs on the board in the second inning to take the lead. Back-to-back singles put runners at the corners, and a double-steal attempt resulted in a run, before Ellee Eck's single plated another. Epperson's sacrifice fly made it a 4-1 game, and two more runs scored on a bunt single and an error, respectively.
• The Falcons got three runs back in the third, all after the first two batters were retired. Martin reached on an error, and back-to-back singles by Hunt and Kaufman allowed Martin to cross the plate. Kaufman then stole second, with Hunt coming home on an error. Then, Taylor Behrendt's single plated Kaufman to cut the BG deficit to 6-4.
• But, the Shockers answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. The frame included doubles by Taylor Sedlacek, Sami Hood and Catelyn Beckerley.
• WSU put five more runs on the board in the fourth, with a double by Sedlacek and a two-run homer by Hood the big blows.
• Hood was 3-for-4 with a double and a homer for the Shockers, while Eck went 2-for-3 with a walk and four runs scored. Sedlacek was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks and three runs.
BGSU-ABILENE CHRISTIAN – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Wildcats got on the board in the top of the first, as Rachel Cook homered with one out. Katie Hutter laced a one-out double to left-center in the bottom of the inning, and Hannah Hunt sacrificed her to third, but she was stranded there.
• BGSU starter Sydney Marshall allowed a pair of singles in the second, but got a pair of ground balls to get out of the inning, making the final throw to first herself. Then, the Falcon scored five times in the bottom of the frame.
• Taylor Behrendt led off with a walk, and took second on Ashley Chevalier's sac bunt. ACU starter Ella Beeman got a fly ball to left for the second out, but Kendall Mathews reached on an outfield error, with Behrendt coming around to score, and Peyton Steffes also reached on an error, putting runners at the corners.
• Steffes stole second before a third-straight error allowed Addie Martin to reach base, with both runners crossing the plate. Then, Hutter singled to center, advancing to second on the throw as Martin took third. Hunt followed with a base hit that plated both Martin and Hutter.
• But, the Wildcats scored four times in the top of the third. Cook led off with a triple, and after a hit batter, Elizabeth Schaefer doubled to score both runners. Taylor Haywood and Taylor Bachmeyer each had RBI doubles in the inning as well to tie the game.
• In the fourth, Audrey Lacina led off with a single and stole second, but was erased trying to advance on a grounder to short. A double put runners at second and third, but another fielder's-choice grounder erased the lead runner. Bachmeyer came through, however, with a run-scoring single that gave ACU the lead.
• The Wildcats added some insurance in the seventh. Haywood walked, and Bachmeyer doubled. A liner produced the first out of the inning, but back-to-back singles by Isabel Martinez and Ari Maxwell each plated a run. And, Beeman worked around a two-out double by Hunt in the bottom of the inning, getting her third line-drive out of the frame to end the game.
• Bachmeyer and Cook had three hits apiece to lead the Wildcats, with Beeman picking up the complete-game win.
