BUFFALO, N.Y. – The highly anticipated start of the 2025 MAC Swimming & Diving Championships arrived at Buffalo's Alumni Arena Natatorium.
BGSU started off head coach Tanner Barton's Championships debut with an eighth place showing (46 points) after the first night of competition.
The crowd noise grew more and more as the line of 200 medley relay swimmers paraded closer to their respective blocks.
The quartet of Emily McNicol, Vial, Riley McNichols and Samia Becdach took seventh with a mark of 1:41.28. The finish was their best at the Championships since 2022 when they came in fourth and broke the school record.
Additionally, McNicol's 25.25 backstroke split as the leadoff improves upon her career-best mark set at the Magnus Cup Invitational that qualified her for the CSCAA National Invitational Championship.
After a 40-minute break, the 800 freestyle relay squad of Taylor Devorace, Ava Vial, Sierra Newton and Ashley Fryer came in eighth with a time of 7:28.78 to wrap up the first night of competition. Devorace's leadoff 200 freestyle split of 1:50.93 is a new career best.
