August 21, 2025 | Volleyball
BGVB’s Dream BiG To Follow At 5 p.m.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will begin their 2025 campaign on Saturday (Aug. 23) with an exhibition match against Youngstown State. The match is set for a 1 p.m. first serve at the Stroh Center and will be free to attend. Regardless of results in the first three sets, the two teams will play a minimum of four sets. Due to move-in for BGSU students, volleyball fans will be directed to park in the north side of Lots 24, 13 and 20 off of Stadium Drive with parking also free. The Stroh Center this season will again be a cashless venue, including tickets and concessions throughout the season.
The matchup against Youngstown State will be the ninth meeting all-time between the programs, although it won't count towards official records. The Falcons have won each of the previous meetings, including a 6-0 record at home against the Penguins. The last three meetings between the two have ended in 3-0 wins for the Orange and Brown, including the most recent meeting in 2018 on a neutral floor in Pittsburgh. The last time YSU made the trip to the Stroh Center was in 2013, which also ended in a 3-0 BGSU victory.
The Falcons will head into the 2025 season with a new look on the bench. After spending nine seasons as either an assistant coach or associate head coach for BGSU, Alex DelPiombio will take over the reins of the program in 2025 as head coach. She'll be joined by a new staff in the Orange and Brown, highlighted by assistant coaches Chelsi Carter, Alexa Wharton and Lukas Pytlak in addition to Director of Operations Dominic Bennett.
As for the BGVB roster, the Falcons welcome six newcomers to the fold this season with five freshmen and one transfer, outside hitter Avery Hobson who arrives from Duquesne. In total, 13 of BGSU's 19 student-athletes on the roster will be listed as either a true or redshirt freshman or sophomore. With the youth on the roster, experience will still remain as BGSU returns 2024 MAC Player of the Year senior outside hitter Lauryn Hovey in addition to All-MAC First Team member junior setter Amanda Otten and All-MAC Second Team member senior middle blocker Jessica Andrews.
The regular season for the Falcons will begin on Aug. 29 with a doubleheader at the NDSU Tournament. Bowling Green will start the season at 2 p.m. EST against Temple before turning around and playing host North Dakota State at 7 p.m. EST. Following three tournaments on the road to open the season, the Orange and Brown will kickoff the home portion of the regular season on Sept.17 against Oakland with a 6 p.m. first serve.
