LAST TIME OUT: B!G DAY FOR BLAND-FITZPATRICK, BG BENCH
• Junior Joniyah Bland-Fitzpatrick scored 19 of her career-high 21 points in the second half on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 7), as the Falcons downed Coastal Carolina, 93-82. The game, part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge, was held at the Stroh Center.
• Bland-Fitzpatrick was one of five players in double digits in the scoring column for the Falcons (12-11). Sophomore Lauren Gerken scored 18, with senior Kaia Woods adding 12, redshirt junior Jasmine Fearne 11 and junior Paige Kohler 10.
• Bland-Fitzpatrick went 10-for-12 from the field in Saturday's win.
• In addition to her 12 points, Woods had game-high totals of seven assists and six steals, as BGSU had a school-record 23 steals as a team. Sophomore Laila Harrison had five steals – in just over three minutes of action – while soph Johnea Donahue had four steals in the win.
• Tessa Grady had 21 points for the Chanticleers (11-14), while Kinsea Grimes scored 18, Olivia Klanac 13, D'Yanis Jiminez 11 and Tracey Hueston 10.
• BGSU shot 58.9 percent from the field, and the Falcons shot 50% or better in each quarter, going an otherworldly 9-of-11 (91.8%) in the fourth period.
• The Falcons had advantages of 37-24 in points off of turnovers and 40-32 in points in the paint, and BGSU got a whopping 52 points from players off the bench.
• BGSU's total of 93 points was the team's highest against a Division-I opponent in over three years, since a 101-68 win over Central Michigan on Jan. 11, 2023.
SCHOOL. RECORD.
• The Falcons, as mentioned, had 23 steals against Coastal Carolina, setting a new school record. The old record of 21 was achieved two times, just under a month apart. BGSU had 21 thefts vs. Texas Southern (Dec. 4, 1993) and Youngstown State (Jan. 3, 1994).
A FEW MORE FUN FALCON FACTS FROM THE CCU GAME
• BGSU is now 4-2 in games in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge, and the Falcons have a four-game winning streak in the competition, which is in its third year. After losses to Texas State and Troy in 2023-24, the Falcons posted wins over Southern Miss and Arkansas State last season before downing Louisiana and CCU this season.
• Sophomore Laila Harrison entered Saturday's game with a career total of nine steals in 45 games as a Falcon. She had seven steals this season, with a single-game high of two steals on three occasions. On Saturday, Harrison had five steals in just over three minutes of action (3:04, to be exact).
• Senior Kendal Moxey made her first start as a Falcon on Saturday, joining Woods, Donahue, Kohler and Fearne in the starting lineup. BGSU now has used 10 different starting lineups this season, and 11 of the Falcons' 13 players have started at least one game.
THE FALCONS VS. THE MAC
• Historically, the Falcons have been one of the top programs in the Mid-American Conference. Entering the Buffalo bout, BGSU has gone 473-281 (.628) in league regular-season games over the years. The Falcons have the second-highest winning percentage of all MAC institutions, and the second-most conference wins of all 13 programs.
• BGSU has won 15 MAC regular-season titles, which is tied for the highest total of any conference institution. And, the Falcons have won a league-best 11 MAC Tournament titles.
• BGSU leads the all-time series with all 12 conference foes, making the Falcons – obviously – the only team in the league with a winning record against every other school. BG also has the most overall victories and highest overall winning pct. of any league institution.
BE READY WHEN YOUR NAME IS CALLED
• The Falcons got 52 points from players off of the bench in Saturday's (Feb. 7) win over Coastal Carolina. It marked the fourth time this season that BG's bench has surpassed the 50-point mark. Currently, BGSU is second in the MAC and 54th in the country in bench scoring, with an average of 23.6 points per game.
• BGSU's bench has outscored the opponent's reserve players in 14 of 23 games this season (with one tie). The Falcons have gotten at least 25 points from players off the bench on eight occasions.
DONAHUE = DEFENSE
• As a freshman in 2024-25, Johnea Donahue had a total of 69 steals, tying her for eighth on the BGSU single-season list. She averaged 2.46 steals per game a year ago, ranking 10th on that school chart.
• This winter, Donahue has a MAC-leading 84 steals, ranking her sixth on the school single-season chart. She is currently averaging 4.00 steals per game, and is on pace to shatter the BGSU record in that category. Currently, the single-season record is 3.07 spg, by Talita Scott in 1993-94.
• In fact, even if Donahue were to go without a steal in each of the next six games, she would still be on pace to break the BGSU seasonal record for steals per game. The single-season lists for steals and steals per game can be found on page 16.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE BULLS
• Buffalo enters Tuesday's contest with an overall record of 2-21 and a MAC mark of 0-11. UB is coming off of a 73-64 loss to Louisiana Monroe on Saturday (Feb. 7). The Bulls are 2-8 at home, 0-10 on the road and 0-3 at neutral sites this season to date.
• Aniya Rowe leads the team with 13.2 points per game, while Meg Lucas has 9.1 ppg and a UB-best 9.8 rebounds per outing. Rowe paces the club in both assists (3.4 apg) and steals (2.0 spg).
• Head coach Kristen Sharkey, in her first season guiding her alma mater, has just one returning player from last year's team. The 2024-25 team went 30-7 overall and 13-5 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Buffalo, 28-27, in the all-time series, but UB has captured the last six meetings, including two games last season. The Bulls won a 70-60 game at the Stroh during the regular season (Jan. 8, 2025), then posted a 65-63 win in the MAC Tournament in Cleveland (March 12, 2025).
• BGSU's last victory in the series was a 64-61 decision in Western New York on Jan. 25, 2023, and the Falcons' last home win over the Bulls came in 2019 (78-72; Feb. 13, 2019). Overall, the Falcons are 12-12 at home, 14-13 on the road and 2-2 in neutral-site meetings with the Bulls over the years. More information can be found on page 26 of these very notes.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the UB contest, the Falcons will hit the road to face Ball State on Saturday (Feb. 14). That game will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Worthen Arena in Muncie.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will return to the Stroh Center for the next two games, hosting Western Michigan on Feb. 18 and Toledo three days later.
