March 29, 2026 | Baseball
BGSU Tallies Season-High 16 Hits, Including Two Triples
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northern Illinois tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
- Lance Vickers registered the first hit for the Falcons with a two-out single to left center in the top of the second. Anthony Mitta followed with a double down the right field line, but Vickers was thrown out at home trying to score to conclude the inning.
- The Huskies added two more runs in the second to push the score to 4-0.
- In the third inning, Zack Horky led off with a single before stealing second. Griffin Scheiderer brought him home with a triple to left field, putting the Falcons on the board with a 1-0 score.
- Carter Mottice followed with a double down the left field line, bringing Scheiderer home. Sam Seidel kept the hot streak going at the plate with a double to right center, trading places with Mottice for another run. A wild pitch pushed Seidel up to third before a TJ Takats single scored Seidel for a 4-4 tie.
- Brayden Curlis continued the hit parade with a single down the left field line, scoring Takats to push the Falcons to a 5-4 lead and prompt a pitching change for NIU.
- Northern Illinois tallied a run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score at 5-5. Another run for the Huskies in the fifth granted NIU a 6-5 lead before a solo home run in the sixth made it 7-5.
- The Falcons answered in the top of the seventh. Takats legged out a triple to right field, setting up an RBI from Andrew DiLodovico to cut the score down to 7-6.
- The back-and-forth continued in the bottom of the seventh with NIU recording five runs for a 12-6 score.
- The Falcons again responded. Horky began the eighth with a single to right followed by a walk to Scheiderer with both moving up on a grounder. A wild pitch was enough to score both, cutting the score down to 12-8.
