Additionally, the Falcons' lone road game during the stretch will be at Ohio State, keeping BGSU in the state of Ohio. For the Orange and Brown, they are currently in a stretch of playing 21 of 24 games in the state of Ohio with the only three games out of state being the series at Northern Illinois this past weekend. They also took one from Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan while registering two against UMass for their 5-7 MAC record. Akron is scheduled to face Youngstown State at home on Tuesday (March 31) before taking on the Falcons.
Series History Against The Zips
What To Watch For
Stade Settling In
Ethan Stade has started to settle in for the Falcons. Since moving into the Friday starter role, Stade has recorded back-to-back quality starts with eight strikeouts in both appearances. Over his last four outings, Stade is averaging 7.8 strikeouts per appearance and for the year he's averaging 14.5 strikeouts per nine innings. Although he hasn't quite hit the innings mark to qualify, needing an inning pitched per team game played, Stade would be leading the MAC in the stat while ranking eighth in the nation. So far, he's thrown 23.0 innings through 25 games, sitting just on the cusp of reaching the qualifying mark for MAC and NCAA leaderboards. With 37 strikeouts, Stade has already tallied a career-high for strikeouts in a season after totaling 50 over three seasons at Minnesota State.
Curlis Heating Up
During the last week of games, Brayden Curlis started to find his swing at the plate and was part of two big moments for the Falcons. Coming in as a substitution in the seventh inning of Tuesday's game (March 24), Curlis went on to log the walk-off hit in the ninth with a single down the third base line to score Sam Seidel. As for Wednesday (March 25), getting the start, Curlis belted his second home run of the season. He kept it going during the weekend series as well, including a career-high three-hit game on Sunday (March 29), including a double and an RBI. Over the last five games, Curlis is hitting .412 (7-for-17) with two doubles, a home run and two runs scored. Last season, Curlis appeared in 35 games with 30 starts and was the game-winning run in two of BGSU's five walk-off wins.
Striking Out The Competition
As a pitching staff, Bowling Green has found their groove in the strikeout column. So far this season, BGSU has posted nine different pitching outings with 5+ strikeouts. Jacob Turner and Ethan Stade lead the way with three each followed by two from Nate Kress. The list rounds out with one from Carrson Sova. As a team, the Falcons are averaging 9.0 strikeouts per nine innings with 224 through 25 games. On the current pace with 55 games on the schedule, Bowling Green will total 493 strikeouts this year, which would obliterate the program record, set last year, at 431. BGSU has set a new team strikeout record each of the last two seasons, registering 403 in 2024. Prior to 2024, the record had been set at 368 from the 1999 campaign.
