Tucker Short was named assistant coach for the volleyball program in February of 2012, joining head coach Danijela Tomic's first staff at Bowling Green. He also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator.
In just one year, Short has been part of a staff that has already left a legacy at BGSU. The program won just its second MAC Tournament Championship ever and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
The program was just 27-36 in the two years prior to the arrival of the new staff but the Falcons went 22-11 in 2012 and added a mark of 13-3 in MAC play, finishing second in the regular season. With a five-set victory over Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship, Bowling Green earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Falcons defeated Yale in the opening round in five sets before losing to No. 1 Penn State in the second round.
Short came to Bowling Green after serving in a similar role at Coastal Carolina. During his time with the Chanticleers, the program was recognized by the NCAA for a perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR). Short is also very familiar with the Mid-American Conference, having spent four years as an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo. He served as the program’s recruiting coordinator and primary setter coach, while also being in charge of scouting opponents and tape exchange.
Short began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at North Carolina in 2003 before moving on to his alma mater to serve as the junior varsity head coach and a men’s volleyball graduate assistant coach. He was a four-year letterwinner of Springfield from 2000-03 and a three-year team captain, where he led the program to three consecutive Division III National Championships. Short received his bachelors degree in physical education from Springfield in 2003.
