Bowling Green, OH -
Bowling Green started its "second" season with a 5-0 triumph over Toledo in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
Falcon junior Tony Fontana limited the Rockets to three hits and three walks, while striking out seven in his third complete game of the campaign. Only one Toledo baserunner was able to reach third and he was stranded when Fontana retired the final two batters in the fourth inning.
BG scored twice in the second inning as Aric Christman's two-out two-run single through the right side scored Lee Morrison and Brad Simon. The Falcons added a single run in the fourth when Morrison reached on an error and scored on Nick Elrod's sacrifice fly.
Bowling Green added two more runs in the sixth when Corey Loomis led off with a double and scored on a UT error. Elrod's second sacrifice fly of the contest plated Morrison.
BG improves to 8-11-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC, while Toledo falls to 8-10 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.
