The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, after a week-and-a-half break from match competition, will begin a stretch in which the team plays three times in six days. The Falcons (2-0-0) of first-year head coach Andy Richards will head to Detroit to take on the UDM Titans in a Wednesday (Sept. 6) contest. That match will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Titan Soccer Field in the Motor City.
Following that contest, the Brown and Orange will jet to Las Vegas for a pair of matches. BGSU will take on the University of Idaho in a neutral-site match on Saturday (Sept. 9), with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. locally (10:00 p.m. Eastern Time). Then, two days later (Sept. 11), the Falcons will face host UNLV in another 7:00 p.m. contest (10:00 p.m. Eastern).
The Falcons will play eight matches away from home to open the 2000 schedule. BGSU's home opener will be Sept. 29 against Northern Illinois.
HEAD COACH ANDY RICHARDS: Andy Richards is in his first year as a head coach, and has a 2-0-0 record heading into the week's action. Richards, who came to BGSU after five years as an assistant coach at Oregon State University, was hired in April.
Ashlee Orr was named the BGSU assistant coach in late August.
THE OPPONENTS: Detroit enters the week with a record of 1-3 after dropping a pair of matches over the weekend. The Titans are 1-0 at home and 0-3 on the road, and have split two matches against Mid-American Conference teams this year. UDM opened the year with a 6-0 loss to nationally-ranked Notre Dame, but rallied to defeat Toledo, 3-2, on a late goal by Katie Lukas. Then, the team lost at Michigan State (0-3) and Western Michigan (2-3). Five different players have one goal apiece on the year. Head coach Mike Lupenec is in his eighth season as a collegiate mentor, all at Detroit, and has a record of 80-61-5. Last year, UDM went 6-13-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. More information on the Titans can be found at http://www.detroittitans.com.
Idaho entered a Labor Day match (Sept. 4) at Idaho State with a 1-2-0 record, and the Vandals also play at UNLV Thursday (Sept. 7) before facing BGSU in Saturday's match. The team opened the season with road losses to Oregon (1-4, Aug. 27) and Oregon State (1-2, Aug. 29), but beat Weber State, 4-3 in double overtime, Saturday (Sept. 2) in Idaho State's tournament. In that WSU match, freshman Emily Nelson had a hat trick. Nelson has four goals through three matches. Head coach Larry Foster entered Monday's contest with a 14-23-3 record in his third year at UI. He is 48-46-14 in his seventh season overall. Last season, the Vandals went 9-8-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the Big West Conference. UNLV is 2-2-0 on the year after dropping a 3-0 decision to Iowa Saturday (Sept. 2) at a tournament hosted by Utah State. The Rebels, who had defeated host USU by a 2-0 count two days prior, had opened the season by winning, 3-1, at Cal State Fullerton before falling at Loyola Marymount by a 1-0 score. Cosette Joffs leads the team with two goals on the season. UNLV will face Idaho Thursday (Sept. 7) before the BGSU match. Dan Abdella is in his first year as a collegiate head coach. THE SERIES: The Falcons trail Detroit, 2-0, in the all-time series, with the Titans winning once in the Motor City and once at BGSU's Cochrane Field. Two years ago, despite a Tracy Gleixner hat trick, the host Titans captured a 6-4 win. Last season, UDM got hat tricks from both Gwen Kilfoy and Tanya Tiselj en route to a 6-0 victory at Cochrane Field. In the two matches between the schools, Kilfoy has scored a total of seven goals.
BGSU has never met Idaho or UNLV in women's soccer.

Wallace, who scored two goals during her initial BGSU season, has a goal in each of BG's first two matches ... the Falcons have won the season opener in all four seasons, and have begun the year with a 2-0 record for the third consecutive fall ... junior Leslie Hepfinger scored her first collegiate goal in the win over SBU ... goalkeeper Erika Flanders, just a sophomore, already is the BGSU career leader in nearly every category, including matches played and started (19 in each case), victories (seven), saves (103) and shutouts (three) ... sophomore Jill Conover and senior Michelle Lisy, last year's leading scorers with 20 and 19 points, respectively, each had a goal and an assist in the win over Bucknell.
