FALCONS WIN OVERTIME OPENER
The Falcons won their fourth straight season opener under Coach Dan Dakich when they defeated Ole Miss, 82-78, in overtime in the first round of the Top of The World Classic. BGSU was 1-0 in overtime games last year, winning at Miami, 67-63. BGSU (#47) received three votes in this week's ESPN Coaches Poll, while Ole Miss (#37) and Butler (#40) also received mention.
AGAINST THE HUSKIES
This will be the second meeting between BGSU and Washington. The Falcons lost to Washington, 92-62, on December 28, 1979 in the Blade-Glass City Classic. It will be the Falcons first game against a PAC-10 school since defeating California, 59-58, in the Lobo Invitational on January 30, 1983. Washington defeated Alaska-Fairbanks, 82-70, Thursday night.
ALL-MCLEOD
Despite being the second leading scorer in MAC play a year ago, Keith McLeod was not chosen as a member of the Preseason All-MAC team. His 33 points against Ole Miss was a career-high and his 27 free throw attempts set a BGSU and MAC record. His 20 free throws made was one shy of the BGSU mark of 21 established by Howard Komives in 1964. Eight times last season, McLeod went to the line 10 times or more.
PARDON ME
Senior point guard Brandon Pardon had a career-high 19 points and also established a career-best with his five three-point field goals made. The senior was one of the national leaders in assists a year ago averaging 7.0 per game (4th nationally). The Falcons were 9-2 last year whenever Pardon made two or more three-pointers in a game.
ON THE RADIO
All three BGSU games can be heard on WBGU-FM (88.1). The student-run campus station is picking up a feed from KIAK (970 AM) in Fairbanks. Each game of the entire tournament is available on the internet at www.uaf.edu.
