BGSU's Joy Echler to Compete at USA Track and Field Championship

Bowling Green - Bowling Green State University trackster Joy Echler qualified and will be participating at this weekend's GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Ore. Echler will be competing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase preliminaries on Thursday, June 21, at 5:28 p.m. (PT) at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. The finals are scheduled for Saturday, June 23, at 2:20 p.m. (PT).
Echler's time at the University of Cincinnati Bearcat Invitational (March 31) qualified her for the USA Championship, finishing second in a time of 10:37.66. The Montpelier, Ohio, native went on to finish third at the 2001 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:40.00) and fifth in the 5,000 meter run (17:32.07).
The sophomore will be one of 50 running in the event and is seeded as the 29th highest qualifier. Echler is the first female Falcon to compete at the USA Championship since Nikki Lessig (shot put) in 1994.
