Falcons Play Final Non-Conference Series
Bowling Green State University competes against its final non-conference opponent this season when the Falcons travel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, N.Y. (Jan. 18-19). The Falcons are coming off of a bye week and a win against Princeton on Jan. 5 (2-1) that snapped a five-game losing streak. RPI has dropped its last three straight as of Jan. 13. The Engineers travel to Eastern College Athletic Conference foe Union on Wednesday, Jan. 16, before its two-game series against the Falcons.
BGSU Versus Rensselaer (7-8-2 overall)
The Falcons lead the overall series with Rensselaer 8-7-0 and have outscored the Engineers 66-57 in those 15 games. BGSU has won four of the last five contests (all at home) and are 7-1-0 against RPI in BGSU Ice Arena. However, Bowling Green is 1-5-0 at RPI and 0-1-0 at neutral sites.
Bowling Green State University Head Coach Buddy Powers
Buddy Powers (Boston University '75) is in his eighth season as head coach of the Falcons. Powers has an overall record of 252-209-39 (.543 pct.) in 13 years as head coach at Bowling Green (1994-SA), Rensselaer (1989-94) and Rochester Institute of Technology (1988-89). The Jan. 5 game vs. Princeton was Powers' 500th as head coach. His record with the Brown and Orange stands at 132-138-24 (.490 pct.). Appointed the head coach at Bowling Green on July 12, 1994, Powers is the fourth head coach in the program's history. It is his 14th season overall on the Falcon bench after serving six years as assistant coach under Jerry York from 1982-88.
Falcons Look to Pick Up Where They Left Off
Bowling Green will try to build off of a 2-1 victory over Princeton on Jan. 5 when it travels to Rensselaer this weekend (Jan. 18-19). The Falcons split a non-conference series with the Tigers two weeks ago (BGSU was off last weekend) and snapped a five-game losing skid. The first line of Scott Hewson (RW), Greg Day (Center) and D'Arcy McConvey (LW) accounted for nine of the 12 points that Bowling Green players had in the two games. Each player had one goal and two assists vs. the Tigers. BGSU lost the Jan. 4 contest, 4-2.
BGSU Holds Tigers to Season-Low
The Falcons limited Princeton to just 24 shots on goal (Jan. 5) en route to a 2-1 victory at the BGSU Ice Arena. The 24 shots-on-goal were the fewest allowed by the Brown and Orange this season. Ohio State had just 25 shots in a 4-3 victory over BGSU on Oct. 27. It marked just the fifth time this season that BGSU outshot its opponent.
