THE FALCONS BEGIN BIG TEN/SEC ROAD TOUR
Saturday's game at Northwestern begins a difficult stretch for BGSU as they will face tough road tests when they visit the Wildcats, Michigan (December 11) and play #4 Alabama (December 14) in the Coors Classic in Mobile, Alabama. This will be the Falcons first visit to Evanston as BGSU defeated Northwestern, 79-68 in the team's only previous meeting in the Glass City Classic in Toledo in December of 1979. This is the third time a Dan Dakich-coached team will visit a Big Ten facility. In 1998, the Falcons played at Indiana, while in 2000 they visited Michigan. The Falcons last win on the road against the Big Ten came in November of 1996, when they topped Purdue, 86-83. BGSU was 1-0 last year against the Big Ten defeating Michigan, 65-59, in Bowling Green. Northwestern is 3-2 and is coming off a 74-49 loss at North Carolina State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday.
NETTER DOUBLES CAREER-HIGH WITH 36-POINT EFFORT
Junior center Kevin Netter scored a career-high 36 points as the Falcons won their MAC opener with a 76-59 victory over visiting Buffalo, Wednesday night. Netter also established career-bests for field goals made (12) and attempted (22) and free throws made (12) and attempted (15). His previous best scoring output was an 18-point effort last year at Indiana State and in 2000 against Urbana.
FITCH OUT FOR THE SEASON
Sophomore forward Germain Fitch suffered what is believed to be a season ending injury to his left knee Tuesday in practice and will likely miss the remainder of the season. He will undergo an MRI on the knee, but it is believed he has a torn ACL. He will be eligible to apply for a medical redshirt should he not play the rest of the season. Fitch averaged 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds as a freshman and was second on the team with 32 offensive rebounds.
REIMOLD SETTLING IN
Sophomore forward John Reimold, who was the MAAC Freshman of the Year for Loyola (Md.) in 2001, had his best game as a Falcon when he scored 19 points and hit five-of-seven from three-point range. He is averaging 16.3 points and is shooting 47.6 from three-point range.
MATTOX LOOKS IN CONTROL
Junior point guard Jabari Mattox looked every bit the floor general against Buffalo with his outstnading defense and ball distribution. Mattox tied his career-best with seven points and added six assists and three steals. He leads the team averaging 33.3 minutes per game.
RYAN IS THE LONE SENIOR
Shooting guard Cory Ryan is the Falcons lone senior. He is averaging 13 points and 3.8 assists. He had a season-high 19 points against Tiffin.
GREAT DEFENSE AGAINST THE BULLS
BGSU held Buffalo to 39 points on 28.3 percent shooting through the first 34 minutes of the game. In addition, BGSU forced 18 first-half turnovers. Since the 2000-2001 season, BGSU is 15-0 when it holds opponents to 60 points or less and 32-3 over the course of Dakich's six-year tenure.
LOOKING FOR DEPTH
Two football players, Will Myles (QB) and Cole Magner (WR), have been invited to attend practice. Myles, a 5-11 freshman, was an All-Blue Catholic Division performer at Chicago's St. Rita High School, while Magner, a 6-2 sophomore, was an All-State selection at Colony High School in Palmer, Alaska.
