Markowski Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Dan Dakich has named Andy Markowski as an assistant coach with the Falcon program. Markowski comes to BGSU from the University of South Dakota where he spent three years with the Coyotes.
"We are very excited to have Andy as a part of our staff," said Dakich. "He comes highly recommended from a number of people who I have the utmost respect for in our profession. His previous experiences as a player and coach will bring a different perspective to our program."
Markowski spent three years as an assistant coach at South Dakota and helped the Coyotes to conference titles in 2000 and 2001. In addition, USD appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2000 and won 17 consecutive games that season.
Markowski, who received numerous academic honors as a student-athlete, is a 1998 graduate of the University of Nebraska where he was a two-time captain and three-time Academic All-Big XII performer for the Cornhuskers. He helped Nebraska to an NCAA Tournament appearances in 1998 and ranks sixth among the all-time players in games played at Nebraska with 126. He finished his career with 603 points, 568 rebounds, 147 assists, 115 steals and 43 blocked shots.
Markowski holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from Nebraska and a master's degree in athletic administration from South Dakota. He is a graduate of Ord (Neb.) High School and is married to the former Jamie Gebhardt.
