Falcons Finish Sixth at 2003 MAC Championships

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green swimming and diving team registered its highest finish in four years at the 2003 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday with its sixth-place finish (306.50 points). First-year Falcon coach Keri Buff was named the 2003 MAC Swimming Coach of the Year, while senior Kelley O'Hara and junior co-captain Sarah Agnew were both named All-MAC Honorable Mention.
"It was a total team effort," said Buff. "This was a good finish to the season and should leave us hungry for next year."
BGSU finished just six-and-a-half points behind fifth-place finisher Ball State (312.50). The last time BGSU finished as high as sixth in the MAC Championships was in 1999 with a team score of 289.
In Saturday's finals, Agnew was the top Falcon with her fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.61). Her time was a new career-best and is third on BGSU's all-time list. O'Hara turned in an eighth-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 52.57, while freshman Stephanie Buckner finished sixth in a time of 52.44. Buckner's time was one-hundredth of a second off of her career-best time of 52.41.
Also placing on Saturday for the Falcons was freshman Dana Schultz in the 200 butterfly (10th, 2:06.42), freshman Tina Sestan in the 200 backstroke (11th, 2:06.94), and sophomore Erin Dilkes in the 200 breaststroke (13th, 2:23.72). BGSU's 400 free relay placed seventh in a time of 3:33.26. Members of the relay were Buckner, O'Hara, Amy Smith and Schultz.
Miami won the team championship with a score of 715.50.
