Bowling Green Begin Second Half of League Action
BGSU returns to Central Collegiate Hockey Association action this weekend with a home-and-home series against Notre Dame (Jan. 9-10), beginning in Bowling Green on Friday night. Both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. starts.
BGSU vs. Notre Dame
The two teams split a home-and-home series earlier this year with each visiting team registering a victory. On Oct. 17 the Falcons snapped a six-game losing streak to ND with a 5-3 win in South Bend. The Irish returned with a 3-0 victory in BG the following night. BGSU is 3-13-1 in the last 17 meetings between the two schools. The Falcons trail the all-time series 30-31-4 (.492 pct.) since the first meeting on Dec. 13, 1969 (9-3 ND win).
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
ND is coming off back-to-back shutouts of Findlay (1-0) and #3-ranked Maine (1-0). Both shutouts were courtesy of junior Morgan Cey, who did not play against BGSU in the earlier series due to a shoulder injury. The Irish are tied for third place in the CCHA with a 7-5-2 league record. Rob Globke leads the Irish with 11-7--18 in 18 games played. Dave Poulin is in his ninth season as head coach of Notre Dame.
Road Less Travelled
The Jan. 2-3 series at Minnesota-Duluth kicked off a busy beginning to the second-half of the season for BGSU. The Falcons went to Duluth, Minn. (Jan. 2-3), and go to Fairbanks, Alaska (Jan. 23-24), and Omaha, Neb. (Feb. 6-7) over a 36-day period. The total land distance from Bowling Green to those destinations is 5,216 miles.
McConvey Records First Hat Trick
D'Arcy McConvey registered his first career hat trick on Jan. 3 at Minnesota-Duluth. The Falcon captain netted two power-play goals and a shorthanded goal, the first of his career, in a 5-4 loss to the Bulldogs. It was the first hat trick by a BGSU player since Feb. 3, 2001, when Ryan Murphy scored three goals vs. Lake Superior.
