Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green freshman Jonathan Matsumoto was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for Monday, October 25. The Orleans, Ontario native recorded two goals and two assists in a weekend sweep at Union College.
Matsumoto had a great collegiate debut on Friday, Oct. 22, notching a power-play goal and two assists in a 5-1 victory against the Dutchmen. He finished plus-two in the game. The next night he scored the game's only goal (PPG) to lead BGSU to a 1-0 win. The 5-foot-11, 204 pound forward scored two of BGSU's three power-play goals on the weekend and was named second and third star, respectively, in the two games.
He was ranked by InsideCollegeHockey.com as the 13th best incoming forward in Division I this preseason. The overall Falcon freshmen class was ranked 14th by INCH.com.
BGSU, which began the season 2-0 for the first time in eight years, opens at home this weekend, Oct. 29-30, when it hosts Lake Superior State University. Friday's game has the usual 7:05 p.m. start while Saturday's face-off is a special matinee feature, beginning at 2:35 p.m.
