Falcon Baseball Signs Five

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University baseball coach Danny Schmitz announced today the signing of five student-athletes to letters-of-intent for the 2005-06 academic year. The five individuals include: Marty Baird (Findlay), Samuel Campitella (Massillon), Christopher Gacom (Cuyahoga Falls), Kevin Leady (Pemberville), and Ryan Shay (Dearborn, Mich.).
BGSU finished the 2004 season with a 28-19 overall record and 13-11 MAC record, just missing a bid to the conference tournament. Schmitz will begin his 15th season at Bowling Green in 2005 and has a career record of 376-344-4 during his time with the Falcons. BGSU has appeared in two NCAA Tournaments during his tenure (1998 & 1999) and won two Mid-American Conference Regular Season championships and two MAC Tournament championships.
Marty Baird, R/R, 6-1, 165, INF/RHP, Van Buren H.S.
Baird is in his senior year at Van Buren High School. He participates in basketball, golf and baseball. In 2002, he was named the BVC Player of the Year and in 2003 was named All-BVC First Team. Last season he batted .401 and was 8-6 on the mound with a 1.24 ERA.
Samuel Campitella, R/R, 6-2, 200, RHP/3B, Jackson H.S.
Campitella is in his senior year at Jackson High School. He has participated in basketball and baseball, and was selected to the Stark Stars fall travelling team this year. Campitella batted .375 while finishing 5-2 on the mound with a 2.84 ERA.
Christopher Gacom, R/R, 5-10, 160, RHP/INF, Walsh Jesuit H.S.
Gacom is in his senior year at Walsh Jesuit High School. He was named First-Team All-Cuyahoga River Baseball Conference and All-Summit County last season, helping lead the Warriors to the Division II State Championship. Gacom finished with a 5-1 record on the mound with a 0.95 ERA, 34 strikeouts and nine walks. He also batted .394 with one home run and 18 RBI.
Kevin Leady, R/R, 6-3, 187, OF/RHP, Eastwood H.S.
Leady is in his senior year at Eastwood High School. He participates in football, basketball and baseball. He was named 2003 First-Team All-Ohio in football and the 2003 Northwest Ohio Player of the Year. In baseball, Leady was named to the 2004 All-Suburban Lakes League First Team.
Ryan Shay, R/R, 6-1, 175, INF, Dearborn Divine Child H.S.
Shay is in his senior year at Dearborn Divine Child High School. He participates in basketball and football. He was named First-Team All-Michigan the last two years and helped lead Divine Child to the 2004 Division II State Championship. Shay had a .439 batting average with 50 runs scored and 33 RBIs last season.
