FALCONS FINISH ROAD TRIP
The Falcons conclude a two-game road swing Saturday at Ohio. The Falcons are coming off a 77-73 victory Wednesday night at Central Michigan. BGSU has won two of the last three meetings in Athens, including a 66-60 overtime victory in the last meeting there in 2003.
Two of the next three games for BGSU will be against the Bobcats. The teams will meet February 7 at Anderson Arena
The Falcons hold a 64-50 lead in the series and defeated the Bobcats at home twice last year, 56-54 in the first round of the MAC Tournament and 81-71 during the regular season.
The Falcons are in their eighth season under head coach Dan Dakich. Dakich is second all-time at BGSU in winning percentage (.578) and fifth all-time in wins with a 128-94 record. He and his family were honored by the Red Cross prior to the NIU game for raising $1,777 for victims of the recent tsunami disaster overseas.
With a 77-57 MAC record, he ranks 11th all-time in conference game winning percentage and is 11th in MAC history in overall winning percentage. He also is one of just 19 MAC coaches to ever win 125 games or more at his institution and his 77 league rank 12th all-time in MAC history.
The Falcons lead the MAC and are ranked ninth in the country shooting 50.3% from the field this season. BGSU also ranks fifth in the nation and leads the league in assists at 17.8 per game. The Falcons are second in blocked shots at 3.87 per game. The Falcons have taken a league-low 274 free throw attempts (17.1 per game).
Senior Josh Almanson leads the MAC averaging 17.8 points on 62.4% (16th in the nation) shooting from the field. He also is eighth in the league in blocked shots (1.1). He had 16 points and three blocks against Central Michigan. He is the ninth most improved player in the country in scoring average adding 9.8 points per game to his total from a year ago. He has scored 922 points in his career and is looking to be the 34th player in BGSU history to score 1,000 points or more in a career.
Senior John Reimold is fifth in the MAC averaging 16.9 points, and ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (54.2%) and second in three-point field goal percentage (49.5%). His three-point field goal percentage was seventh nationally last week. He has scored 1,516 points as a collegian (1,114 at BGSU and 402 at Loyola-Maryland as a freshman).
Junior Steven Wright had 15 points and made the go-ahead three-pointer with 2:10 left in the game to lead BGSU to a 77-73 win at Central Michigan. He tied his career-best with three three-point field goals in that game.
The Bobcats
Ohio is one of six MAC teams that are unbeaten at home and are 7-0 in the Convo. They are comning off a 76-68 win over Toledo on Wednesday night. Junior Mychal Green is their top scorer averaging 15 points per game. Freshman Leon Williams is averaging 11.1 points and 8.1 rebounds and sophomore Sonny Troutman is averaging 11.4 points
Recent Double Digit Comebacks For The Falcons
2004-05 Trailed 15-4 at Central Michigan and won 77-73. Trailed 34-17 at halftime against Toledo at home and won 70-69.2002-03 Trailed 57-33 in the second half at Kent State and won 78-74. Trailed 26-16 in the first half and won 80-72 against Cleveland State. Trailed 38-22 at Ohio in the second half and won 66-60. Trailed 24-13 at home against EMU in the first half and won 73-72.
2001-02 Trailed 28-18 at home in the first half and defeated Michigan, 65-59.
2000-01 Trailed 47-33 at home at halftime and defeated W. Michigan, 74-68.
1998-99 Trailed 44-28 in the second half at home and defeated Toledo, 70-64.
