Minneapolis, Minn. - With the holiday tournaments complete and the second half of the college hockey season officially underway, the Hobey Baker Memorial Award is proud to unveil Vote for Hobey, the online system that gives college hockey fans a voice in selecting the winner of the sport's most prestigious individual honor. The nomination phase of 2005 Vote for Hobey opened Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Hobeybaker.com
Vote for Hobey consists of three phases...
• Nominating: Running through Sunday, Jan. 23, fans may visit hobeybaker.com and nominate as many players as they would like for consideration in the balloting. Each player with at least 25 nominations will be placed on the Preliminary Voting ballot.
• Preliminary Voting: Running from Monday, Jan. 24, through Sunday, March 6, fans may cast one ballot per day for their first-, second- and third-place choices for the Hobey Baker Award. The fans' tally will be combined with the votes of the 58 Division I head coaches to determine the 10 finalists for the award.
• Final Voting: Between Thursday, March 17, and Monday, March 28, fans have the opportunity to cast their final ballot for the award. The results of the fan vote will be counted, along with the votes of the Hobey Baker Selection Committee, to determine the recipient of this year's award.
The 2005 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced April 8 in Columbus, Ohio, the day before the championship game at the NCAA Frozen Four. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is celebrating its 25th season of recognizing strength of character and excellent play in college hockey.
