Recap | Box Score | Notes
Virginia Tech Head Coach Seth Greenberg
"I've got to give them a lot of credit. I thought they really executed extremely well, made us guard for long periods of time and basically waited for us to make a defensive mistake."
"You've got to give credit to Coach (Dakich) and his players."
"We needed to get a stop and we just couldn't get a stop."
Head Coach Dan Dakich
"I was out of her as soon as I saw the one short guy said good. I got out of here as fast as I could, you know, let's go with it. I like Coach Greenberg, I'm going to go see how he's doing afterward, but the heck with that, I'm getting out of here. Make them drag us back out but we weren't coming, we were going to keep it just the way it was. What a ballgame!"
"Play the way that we are as a program, don't play any other way. And I thought right from the get-go, we had a toughness, we had an energy, we had enthusiasm and then at the end we were just hanging on."
"I thought that was a heck of a basketball game. I thought our team played a lot better today than the other day and it just goes to show what a mentality is in basketball. I think this game was setup a lot better for us than it was setup for Virginia Tech. They won their game by 30, they watched us play like an intramural team and I've been in those situations. It is hard to tell your team that there is going to be some fight in kids. But our kids always have fight. Our kids aren't normal people that play in this program, they always have fight. We just made a play at the end. We overcame a lot of things. We overcame a very good team. A very, very, very good, well coached basketball team. We overcame going down and then John Floyd made a big time John Floyd play and I was getting off that court as quick as I could get off that court. They werenít going to get us back on. They could've changed the score but we were done for the day, we weren't coming back."
"I thought the tone of the game was set for us on the tip. I told my kid (Mawel) Soler, go steal the tip and he did and he did with a lot of energy. Then we make that play (Matt Lefeld bucket and a foul)."
"For us, that was a huge step forward from how we played against Western Carolina quite frankly. Matt set a good tone for us."
"I think this is a really well coached team. I was telling my coaches last night when we were watching film, like wow. This is the earliest you can possibly play and they have all their stuff, they run it well, they've got really good guards and you know, Iím just proud of our guys. They donít lose very much in here - and that was good."
