Bowling Green Ends Five-Game Road Swing with Two at #7 Ohio State (Feb. 11-12)
BGSU ends its longest road swing of the season, five games, with two games at #7-ranked Ohio State this weekend (Feb. 11-12) at Value City Arena. Both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. faceoffs and can be heard on 88.1 FM with play-by-play from Andy Evans.
Collect Call for Omaha, Nebraska
The phone lines between Omaha and Columbus will be burning up as first-place Michigan travels to fourth-place Nebraska-Omaha, and second-place Ohio State hosts the fifth-place Falcons this weekend. OSU sits just one point behind the CCHA-leading Wolverines while the Mavericks are just two points ahead of BGSU in the CCHA standings, with the top six teams in the CCHA earning home ice March 11-13.
Falcons vs. Buckeyes
Over the years, BGSU has played in-state rival OSU at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, the OSU Ice Rink, and now Value City Arena. In Columbus, period, the Falcons are 32-32-2 and lead the overall series 86-54-4. However, it's been since Oct. 26, 2001, that the Falcons have defeated OSU (5-3 in Bowling Green), an 0-7-0 stretch. At Value City Arena, BGSU has won just twice in nine tries, the last win coming Nov. 18, 2000 (5-2).
Falcons End Winless Streak vs. Ferris State
BGSU snapped a nine-game winless streak vs. FSU (0-7-2) with its 4-2 win on Feb. 5. The Falcons also won their first game in Big Rapids in eight tries (0-6-2), dating back to Feb. 27, 1999.
Falk's Point Streak Ends at Seven Games
JR Mike Falk's career-best and team-best seven game point streak came to an end on Feb. 4 at FSU. Falk had 4-4--8 during his point streak. He responded with a goal and two assists the following night and has 6-6--12 in his last 11 games.
20 Falcons Have Lit the Lamp
JR Bryan Dobek became the 20th different Falcon to score a goal this season, up from 17 last season. In fact, the last time BGSU had 20 players with a goal was in the 1997-98 season. BGSU had 21 players light the lamp in the 1996-97 season.
13 Falcons Seeing Double
FR John Mazzei became the 12th Falcon and SR Steve Brudzewski became the 13th Falcon to hit the double-digit point total last weekend. Mazzei (2-9--11) had two assists in two games while Brudzewski (7-3--10) had a goal on Feb. 5. The last time BGSU had more than 13 players reach double-digit point totals in a season was in 1996-97 (14).
Pilkington "Assisting" the Cause for BGSU
JR Brett Pilkington is fourth in the nation with an 0.95 assists-per-game average. The forward has a team-high 20 assists in 21 games, including seven helpers in his last four games and 12 assists in his last eight games. He has surpassed his career totals from a year ago in assists (11) and points (21).
