Last Season vs. Windsor
BGSU 3, Windsor 2 (OT)
Derek Whitmore scored at 2:53 of overtime to give BGSU a 3-2 victory over Windsor on Oct. 15 last season in exhibition play. After two scoreless periods, the two teams combined to score four goals in the third period. BGSU goals came from Bryan Dobek at 5:21 (PPG) and Taylor Christie (5:54). The Falcons outshot the Lancers 46-13 in the game, but Lancer goalie Reese Kalleitner played well in keeping the game close. Jordan Sigalet had 11 saves. BGSU was 2-for-14 on the power play while UW was 2-for-7.
New And Improved Falcons
The Falcons are coming off their best season in nearly a decade. BGSU had a fifth-place finish and recorded 13 league victories in 2004-05. As a result, the Brown and Orange hosted a CCHA Playoff series for the first time since 1995.
Falcons' Triple Threat
Alex Foster, Jonathan Matsumoto and Brett Pilkington formed the first trio in seven years to tally 30 or more points in a single-season last year. Matsumoto led the team with 32 points, followed by Foster with 31 and Pilkington with a career-high 30. The last trio to have 30-plus points in a season were Dan Price (53), Adam Edinger (48), and Ryan Murphy (33) in 1998-99.
Freshman Duo Matches Two-Decade Record
Jonathan Matsumoto, along with Alex Foster, became the first Falcon freshmen tandem with 30-or-more points in a season since Greg Parks (42) and Clarke Pineo (30) in 1985-86. Matsumoto had a team-high 32 points (18g, 14a) while Foster had 31 points (8g, 23 a).
Matsumoto also became just the third Falcon to lead BGSU in scoring in his freshman season. The Orleans, Ontario, native tallied a team-high 32 points last season, joining George McPhee (1978-79; 88 pts.), and Gerry Bradbury (1970-71; 52 pts.) as the only other Falcon frosh to lead the team in scoring.
Hodgson Recognized By The CCHA Bowling Green defenseman Michael Hodgson (Surfside, Calif.) was named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association All-Rookie Team last season. Hodgson became the first Falcon defenseman to earn this honor and just the sixth overall Falcon ever to be named to the All-Rookie team, which was started in 1988.
Hodgson led all Falcon defensemen in points (18), goals (4), shots (60), and games played (36). He tied senior Don Morrison among BGSU blueliners with 14 assists. He finished the season with a plus/minus rating of plus-4 and had two three-game point streaks this season.
