Kalamazoo, Michigan - The following are post game notes following Saturday's MAC men's basketball game at Western Michigan.
The Falcons saw their three-game winning streak snapped and lost for the seventh straight time to Western Michigan.
BGSU made its first seven shots of the game and led 16-4 with 15:28 left in the first half.
Western Michigan hit seven of 10 three-pointers in the first half and led 41-29 at halftime. Entering the game, WMU was last in the MAC hitting just 27.3% from long distance, while BGSU led the MAC in defense allowing opponents just 28.1% success from long range. The Broncos finished the game making nine of 17 (52.9%) from three-point range.
Western (54.4% from the field), became just the second team to make more than half its shots from the field against BGSU this season (Radford, 55.1%). BGSU entered the game leading the MAC in field goal percentage defense at 38.5%. Despite today's contest, opponents are shooting just 40.1% against the Falcons this season.
The closest BGSU could get in the second half was at 54-46 with 10:48 remaining on a pair of free throws by junior Matt Lefeld.
BGSU did not shoot a free throw in the first half.
Junior John Floyd had a career-high 23 points and knocked in five of seven from three-point range, also career-bests. He made eight of 13 field goal attempts.
Junior Martin Samarco had 14 points, but the MAC leader in three-point field goals made, connected on just one of six long distance tries.
Senior Mawel Soler had 10 points and five assists and set a career-high by making two of three triples. He has made four of six three-pointers in the last three games and has posted double digit scoring efforts in back-to-back games for the second time in his career.
Freshman Erik Marschall had a career-high four offensive rebounds.
The Falcons are now 0-2 when the magic act "Quick Change" performs at halftime. They were present when BGSU lost at Bradley earlier this season.
