FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - For the third time this season senior Jon Horrell has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week. The netminder recorded a 0.67 goals against average, a .976 save percentage and a 3-0-0 record en route to earning the award.
On Tuesday Horrell stopped all 22 Colgate shots for his first collegiate shutout as a Falcon. On Friday he continued his stellar play stopping 38-of-40 shots in a 3-2 win over #16 Ohio State for the Falcons first win over the Buckeyes since Oct. 26, 2001. The following night the senior recorded 23 saves in a 2-0 win over the same Buckeyes inside the BGSU Ice Arena.
Horrell, who won the award last week after picking up a pair of non-conference wins over UMass and UConn and posting a 1.56 gaa and a .959 save percentage, was also named CCHA Goalie of the Week back on Oct. 24 after posting a 2-2 tie versus Ohio State, stopping 41-of-43 Buckeye shots.
For the season Horrell owns a 2.75 gaa and a .914 save percentage, but where he has made his mark is in his last six games.
In that span the senior has a 6-0-0 record, helping the Falcons to their longest win streak in 11 years. He also has a 1.52 gaa and a .954 save percentage, stopping 188-of-197 opposing shots.
Horrell and the Falcons play a home-and-home with Western Michigan this weekend, with the Falcons hosting the Broncos on Friday night at 7:05. Saturday's contest in Kalamazoo, Mich., is set for 7:35 p.m.
