Opening Statement
"It was certainly a different type of game than last night. It was a much tighter checking game and not as much special teams last night. It was a game with a lot of body on body throughout. We had some chances in the first two [periods] and we didn't give ourselves enough in the third, because we didn't get enough pucks deep."
You really did a lot of good things in the first two periods, can you elaborate on that?
"I thought after last night that we got a lot more contact in the game tonight. We created good chances off of loose pucks, it was a very evenly played game in a lot of ways. I liked our chances for the first two periods, but I think the difference was our inability to get pucks deep in the third period. Give credit to Ohio State, they stacked up pretty good and took advantage of their chances in the third."
Can you evaluate your power play?
"I thought we did a couple things we needed to do, but I still don't think we did a good enough job retrieving enough pucks. A lot has to do with bringing a lot of people on the blueline, pucks have to get deep and we have to retrieve it. I thought when we did we gave ourselves some chances. Another issue, the same as last week is that we didn't win enough face-offs on our power play. We lost too many draws and we are starting too many power plays in our own end. I thought there were some good things, but I want our power play to be further along than we are right now."
Can you talk more about the play of Jimmy Spratt?
"He was making the saves he had to make in the first two periods. Their second goal came from the other side of the ice and I don't know if it came through traffic or not. The lost draw hurt us there."
You guys did a lot of good things even though the scoreboard didn't show it, what are your thoughts?
"We tried to answer back after last night's embarrassment. We didn't get any breaks, but I thought our guys competed well and played hard for the most part. However we just couldn't score any goals."
Can you talk about the save Palmer made on the breakaway?
"I knew I had a lot of time so I tried to come in at an angle and make a quick move on my backhand. He made a really good save on me and he's a good goalie. There is nothing I could have done different. I tried to make the move and it just didn't work out."
Do you think you had a lot of chances?
"We had some chances, but he played pretty well tonight. I don't know what's going to happen. There are a lot of frustrated guys in the dressing room and we thought we played pretty hard tonight. Unfortunately, we did not come out on top but that's hockey."
How do you keep doing the right things when things aren't going the way you like?
"When we aren't putting up numbers offensively there is a lot more you can do getting pucks deep, blocking shots, finishing checks and all the little things. Sooner or later if you keep doing enough of those little things then you'll see things like Michael Hodgson's goal. It started off getting the puck deep and making plays, but it was just kind of too little too late."
