BGSU head coach Scott Paluch sat down with the media following the 2-1 loss to Miami on Thursday night. Below are some of coach Paluch's comments.
Opening Statement
"It's another hard loss there is no question about it. As difficult as it has been down the stretch here I believe that we have taken some steps here to become a pretty good playoff team. I know that might sound a little crazy, but I think we have made some strides here in the last couple games and I think we are playing much better defensively. A lot more responsibly. It usually seems like half our equation is there on the special teams, but tonight I thought our penalty kills was outstanding for the entire game. We just couldn't retrieve enough pucks against them. I though they did an excellent job of getting a lot of clears on their PK. Even when we were there, they were able to win a lot of lose pucks and ice the puck and it is frustrating when there is that many power play opportunities each way and you can't get enough generated off of it."
Horell's performance on Senior Night?
"He was really good. There were a couple games where he just had some numbers going against him, I thought tonight he battled extremely hard and kept the game right where we could have a chance. It's nice when a guy responds on senior night and Falk getting a goal."
What did you like about the penalty kill unit?
We kept the puck along the wall in stretches and clear it when we had the opportunity. Its funny that the one power play goal they get is a failed clear because it hits the referee and doesn't come out of the zone. I thought we did a pretty consistent job of keeping pucks on the perimeter and getting clears when we had chances. I really liked our unit.
Your take on the game-winner coming off the guys shoulder
"That is a strange goal to go in, but they got the puck to the net and Jones was there. He is a terrific player who is comfortable in front of the net. When you throw pucks at the net, good things happen."
