BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - As the weekend approaches, the women's track team of head coach Scott Sehmann will travel to Toledo to participate in the 2006 Outdoor MAC Championships.
Going into the meet, assistant coach Cami Wells feels the team has done well in preparing for the meet.
"The team has done a very nice job of competing this outdoor season. We have seen a lot more aggressiveness and the team results show that from week to week."
There are several Falcons who have risen to the tops of the MAC standings. Jessica White is currently ranked second in the 100-meter dash as well as 12 in the 200-meter. Jamie Roflow is currently ranked third in the 5,000-meter run and second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. In the 5K, she is only .58 seconds behind the athlete who is ranked first. In the steeplechase, she is currently ranked 14 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. In the 10,000-meter, Bridget Dalic is currently ranked tenth. Stephanie Hillman will also run the race, but has not run the 10,000-meters this year, but is not stranger to the race as she was the 2005 All-Ohio Champion and finished seventh at the 2005 MAC Championships last year. Hillman will also take part in the steeplechase where she is ranked tenth. Teammate Kim Settle is ranked seventh for the Falcons. Nicole Standback is ranked ninth in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 14.18 seconds. Erica Wilson is ranked in at fifth in the high jump. In the throws, there are many Falcons who look to place. Whitney Hartman is one of them. She is ranked sixth in the discus with a toss of 152-03.00. Hartman is also ranked third in the hammer throw. Takara Dunning is currently fifth and hopes to place higher. The team of Andi Bunko and Alyson Lee are ranked fifth and seventh respectively. Megan McAuley has an eighth place rank in the heptathlon.
Wells pointed out some of the strengths the Orange and Brown has had on the team this season and hopes that the MAC Championships will be no different. Jessica White should be a strong contender in the short sprints. Jamie Roflow should contend well in the 5K and steeplechase and Whitney Hartman should do the same in all aspects of the throwing area.
Wells and company hopes the Falcons fair well in competition.
"Based upon the conference lists we have a chance to be anywhere from 6th to 10th. Of, course anything can happen at the MAC meet and it comes down to who is ready to compete this weekend. I believe that this team is ready to compete."
