Falcons Host MAC East Division Foes

The Falcons return home for a five match stint in Anderson Arena where they will defend their undefeated home court. The Falcons swept the IPFW Mastodons (Oct. 2) in the first match of the five match home stand. The Orange and Brown host MAC East Division foes Akron on Friday October 5 at 7:00 p.m. EST and Buffalo Saturday October 6 at 3:00 p.m. EST.
The last two matches of the home stand will be against MAC West divisions opponents Central Michigan on Friday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. EST and Eastern Michigan on Saturday, October 13 at 3:00 p.m. EST.
THIS WEEKEND'S MATCHUPS
Falcons vs. Zips
The Orange and Brown will host Akron in their first of two matches against MAC East opponents this weekend. The Zips are currently 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the MAC. Akron fell to Buffalo (1-3) on Sept. 27 and beat Toledo (3-1) on Sept. 29.
The Falcons lead the Zips 22-11 in the all-time series and are 11-6 against the Zips in Anderson Arena. The Falcons are on a six match winning streak against the Zips and have only lost four out of the last 12 meetings between the two teams.
The last meeting between the two teams was on Oct. 21, 2006, which was a record breaking day for the Falcons. The three game sweep over the Zips was the 17th match the Falcons won consecutively last season, making it the longest winning streak in BGSU history.
Falcons vs. Bulls
The Falcons will host the Bulls in the second of their weekend MAC matches. The Bulls are 2-17 overall and 1-3 in the MAC. The Bulls beat Akron (3-1) and lost to Ball State (0-3) this past weekend.
The Falcons lead the all-time series 13-1 and are undefeated against the Bulls at home. The Falcons only loss to the Bulls came in Oct. 2003 in a five game match. The Falcons are on four match winning streak against the Bulls.
The lasting meeting between the Falcons and the Bulls was on Oct. 20, 2006. The Falcons swept the Bulls, which was the 16th match of the record breaking winning streak last season. THIS WEEKEND LAST YEAR IN BG This weekend last year in Bowling Green the Falcons hosted Akron (Friday, Oct. 6) and Buffalo (Saturday, Oct. 7) winning both matches in a three game sweep.
FALCONS UNDEFEATED AT ANDERSON ARENA
The Falcons are undefeated in Anderson Arena, 6-0 on their home court. The Falcons have held their opponents collectively to a .134 hitting percentage while the Orange and Brown are hitting a .289 in Anderson Arena.
The only team in volleyball history to go undefeated in Anderson Arena is the 1979 volleyball team.
ALL-TIME SERIES IN MAC EAST
The Falcons lead all but one all-time series against MAC East opponents. The Falcons are leading Akron (22-11), Buffalo (13-1), Kent State (39-17), and Ohio (40-20). Miami (21-35) is the only MAC East division team to lead BGSU in all-times series.
MILESTONES TO WATCH FOR
Senior Stephanie Swiger is only seven kills away from 1,000. Swiger has recorded 993 career kills with a .279 hitting percentage. Swiger is currently 13th in BGSU history in career kills.
FALCONS SWEEP IPFW FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
The Falcons picked up a huge victory, sweeping the Mastodons (30-22, 30-19, 30-26) and remain undefeated on their home court now 6-0 in Anderson Arena. The Falcons' offense was integral in the win over IPFW hitting a .307 for the night, BGSU's fourth best this season and only allowing the Mastodons .123.
The Falcons dominated the match from the first whistle winning the first point of the match and never letting go of the lead in game one. The Falcons continued to fire away at the Mastodons who kept the game close until a five point Falcon run ending with a Sam Fish kill finishing off the Mastodons in game one. BGSU offense was unstoppable terminating 19 kills good for a .372 hitting percentage in game one.
In game two the Mastodons, took their only lead all night over the Falcons, 5-3. The Falcons answered with a five point run started from a Meghan Mohr kill. The Falcons never let down stringing together back to back three point runs to give them game point. The Mastodons were able to fight off one Falcon game point but Mohr put a way a kill from Fish to end game two, 30-19. The Falcons defense shined in game two at the net and in the back court keeping the Mastodons to -.019, with four blocks and 25 digs as a team.
The Mastodons kept game three the closest of the match until the Falcons broke the game open with a four point run taking a 19-12 lead. The Mastodons weren't done yet later putting together a six point run bring them within two of the Falcons, 21-19. The Falcons finished game three for the win, 30-26.
The Falcons were on fire with three players in double digits. Leading the way with 15 kills a piece were Stephanie Swiger hitting a .414 and Corey Domek hitting a .444. Kendra Halm had 11 kills with only one error in 20 attempts hitting a season high .500 and five blocks. Mohr had seven kills for the night. Fish ran the Falcon offense collecting 47 assists and three kills with no errors. Defense was relentless with three players in double digits as well. Chelsey Meek led the way with 24 digs followed by Mohr with 15 and Simon with 13.
This is the Falcons second sweep over the Mastodons this season, also giving the Falcons a 6-5 lead in the all-time series.
HALM RESEACHES SEASON HIGH
Kendra Halm reached a season high hitting a .500 with 11 kills and only one error in 20 attempts in the sweep over IPFW.
MEEK THIRD IN BGSU HISTORY
Juinor Chelsey Meek has continued her success on defense with solid performances all season long. Meek has had nine matches with 20 plus digs and two matches with 30 plus digs, which earned her an elite membership into the AVCA 30 plus digs club this season.
Meek has continued to pass through all of the former Falcons in BGSU history in front of her. After recording 24 digs in the Falcons' victory over IPFW (Oct. 2) Meek moved up to third in career digs with 1364 career digs putting her right behind former teammate Chrissy Gothke. Only 101 digs lie between Meek and Gothke another record Meek is on pace to break leaving only one Falcon ahead of her.
DOMEK TERMINATES 500
Sophomore Corey Domek recorded her 500th career kill against Kent State (Oct. 28). Domek terminated 21 kills, only one shy of her personal best, hitting a .326 and was her second 20 plus kills match of the season. Domek has amassed 524 kills in her year and half at BGSU.
FISH DISHES OUT 500 ASSISTS
Freshman Sam Fish dished out her 500th career assist against Ohio (Oct. 29). Fish leads the Falcons with 509 assists averaging 9.25 per game.
FALCONS MOVE UP IN THE BGSU RECORD BOOKS
Three Falcons have continued stellar performances and are moving up the BGSU record books.
Senior Stephanie Swiger started the season 15th in career kills. Swiger has put away 993 career kills thus far, which is 13th in BGSU history. Swiger also a blocking machine at the net started the season seventh in block assists and 11th in total blocks. Swiger has now totaled 339 block assists, third in BGSU history and 379 total blocks, eighth in BGSU history.
Junior Kendra Halm also a wall at the net started the season 12th in block assists and 15th in total blocks. Halm has totaled 281 career block assists, 7th in BGSU history and 317 total blocks (two shy of Lynne Nibert), 12th in BGSU history.
Junior Chelsey Meek has 1,364 career digs moving her up to third in BGSU history (101 digs behind former teammate Chrissy Gothke).
FALCONS IN MAC LEADER BOARD
The Falcons have three individuals in the top ten in the overall MAC leader board this week.
Senior Stephanie Swiger is ranked fifth in the MAC top ten in hitting percentage with a .295 totaling 187 kills.
Junior Chelsey Meek is fourth in the MAC for digs with 5.48 digs per game totaling 345 digs.
Junior Kendra Halm is sixth in the MAC in blocks with 1.02 blocks per game totaling 64 blocks this season.
