Swimming and Diving Set to Host Rival Toledo

BOWLING GREEN,Ohio - Seven seniors will compete for the last time inside Cooper Pool as the swimming and diving program hosts rival Toledo on Friday Evening. The Falcons will look to post their first win in Mid-American Conference competition of the year at the event which is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
Goodbye Seniors
The Class of 2008 will be honored prior to their last home meet Friday. The seniors include swimmers, Brit O'Conner, Lisa Hipp, Jen Wright, Christina Vaca and captains Kim Albin and Michael Carriaga. The lone diver of the senior bunch is Jill Auer. All five swimmers hold a spot on the Top-Ten Individual Event times list.
Brit O'Conner ranks sixth in the 100 back and fifth in the 200 back and was a member of the sixth place 400 medley relay at the MAC championships in 2005 as well as a member of the second place 400 medley relay and fifth place 200 medley relay at the same championships in 2003. The Fremont, Ohio native also placed sixth in the 200 back at the 2004 MAC Championships.
Lisa Hipp, a Michigan native, holds the BGSU record in the 800 free relay and is fifth all-time in the 50 free. She also is a MAC Medalist, as she helped garner a third place finish in the 200 free at the MAC meet in 2005.
Jen Wright has the fifth best-time in the 200 free on the top times list and swam on the 800 free relay which placed third at the MAC Championships in 2006. The pre-physical therapy major, also helped the 200 free relay capture fifth at the 2007 MAC Championships and the 800 free relay take sixth at the 2005 MAC Championships.
Co-Captain Kim Albin has recorded two top ten times on the all-time list over her career. She holds the 10th spot in the 200 IM and seventh in the 400 IM. Her highest placement at the MAC Championships came in 2006 when she placed seventh in the 400 IM.
Michael Carriaga, also a co-captain, has possession of the fifth best time in the 100 fly at BGSU. As a junior, Carriaga took sixth in the 100 fly at the conference championships as well as helping the 200 IM relay place third. At the 2006 MAC championships, she swam to a third place finish in the 100 fly, making her a MAC medalist.
Christina Vaca, originally from Naperville, Illinois, holds ninth place in the 100 and eighth in the 200 breaststroke on the BGSU Top Times list. The breaststroke specialist has placed 14th in the 100 and 18th in the 200 breaststroke at the 2006 MAC meet and 10th in the 100 and 11th in the 200 the prior year.
Jill Auer, the only senior diver, has personal bests in the 1-meter of 220.00 and the 3-meter of 244.00. In 2006, she placed 20th on the 1M and 18th on the 3M during the 2006 MAC Championships.
Scouting the Rockets: The Rockets enter the competition with an undefeated MAC record(5-0) and stand at 10-2 overall. They most recently set five new records as they defeated Notre Dame on Jan. 19. Last year, the Falcons fell to their northern rival in Toledo. However, Junior Alisha Yee finished first in two events, 200 IM and 100 back respectively. Senior Jen Wright picked up a victory in the 200 freestyle and diver Jill Auer provided a third place finish.on the 3 meter board with a score of 206.78.
Falcon Notes: Againest Akron last Saturday, the Falcons claimed four individual top times and one relay victory as they were defeated by the Zips. Yee picked up victories in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM, giving her a team-leading, 14 individual wins on the year. Junior Sami Jordan gained her first individual victory of the season in the 200 free.
