Meek Named MAC East Division Co-Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The number two is magical for Bowling Green, Ohio native Chelsey Meek who was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week today (Oct. 13) by the conference office. She not only wears number two on the court but multiplied it by a thousand to become the first Falcon in program history to ever record 2,000 career digs. Meek recorded her 2,000th dig in the Falcons, 3-1 win over Buffalo (Oct. 11).
Meek, currently ranked 22nd in nation for digs, led the Falcons to victories over MAC East Division opponents Akron (3-2) and Buffalo (3-1) totaling 49 digs on the weekend averaging an impressive 5.44 digs per set. On the weekend she complied five assists, one kill and one service ace to go along with her 49 digs.
Meek not only holds the BGSU career record with 2,022 digs but is also now fifth in the MAC all-time record books for career digs. She currently leads all active players in the nation in consecutive matches recording 10-plus digs as she extended her streak to 77 matches this past weekend, she is only three matches away from tying the all-time record (80).
This is the first MAC East Division Player of the Week honor of Meek's her career. However she is no stranger to success as she earned three All-Tournament honors this season alone. She was also earned All-Tournament honors twice as junior and was named to the Academic All-MAC team last season.
