Falcons Tabbed for Third in East Division

CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team has been picked to finish third in the Mid-American Conference's East Division in 2008-09. The poll, the result of voting by members of the MAC News Media Association, was announced at the MAC Media Day event Thursday morning (Oct. 30) at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
Falcon head coach Louis Orr and senior Darryl Clements represented their team at the event, meeting with various members of the media during the morning session.
The Falcons received 70 points in the poll, trailing only Kent State (124) and MIami (109) in the East. Akron (67) was picked to place fourth in the East, followed by Ohio (66) and Buffalo (35).
Western Michigan was picked to win the West Division, followed by Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo, Ball State and Northern Illinois.
KSU received 11 votes to win the MAC Tournament, with Miami receiving seven and BGSU and EMU two apiece.
Orr, who enters his second season at the BGSU helm, welcomes back a total of 11 pleyers who have earned letters for the Falcons in the past, including all five 2007-08 starters. Last year's club, picked to finish sixth in the East Division, was in the running for a top-four MAC Tournamnt seed until the final week of the regular season. BGSU finished 13-17 overall and 7-9 in MAC action.
This year's team will host an exhibition game on Nov. 8, taking on Ashland at Anderson Arena. The regular season begins the following weekend (Nov. 14-16) with the NABC Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., with the home opener slated for Nov. 20 vs. Wayne State.
