Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green sophomore forward Chris Knight was named Mid-American Conference East Division men's basketball Player of the Week Monday. It marks the second time in three weeks that Knight received the honor and the third time in his two-year career.
Knight scored 17 points in the first half, making 7-of-9 shots in the first 20 minutes, as Bowling Green opened up a big lead on Buffalo and held on to defeat the Bulls 86-82 Saturday in the MAC opener for both schools. Knight finished with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting, adding five rebounds and four assists in a season-high 29 minutes off the bench. He also attempted his first two three-pointers of the season, making both of them.
Bouncing back from off-season surgery, Knight missed the first three games of the season and played sparingly in the next six contests. Since that point, he has played at least 18 minutes in all five games, has scored at least 13 points three times, and had 14 rebounds in a win over Fordham. He was also named MAC East Player of the Week two weeks ago after averaging 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in a pair of wins, picking up the team's only double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 boards against Eastern Illinois.
Knight is averaging 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game during the most recent five-game stretch and is shooting 49 percent from the field. He was also named MAC East Player of the Week as a freshman after being named MVP of the Peggy Cronin Classic in his hometown of Cincinnati.
Bowling Green is 8-6 in the 2008-09 season and is 1-0 in MAC play. The Falcons play at Kent State Wednesday at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Akron Saturday at 8 p.m. for a game televised nationally on ESPNU.
