Track and Field Head to Mid American Conference Indoor Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons are set to compete at the Mid-American Conference Championships on Feb. 27 and 28 at the Kent State University Field House. Bowling Green State University will compete with 12 athletes that are ranked top-20 in the conference.
The highest ranked of the Falcons is TaKarra Dunning with a fourth place ranking overall in indoor MAC competition. Her throw of 15.25 meters at the All-Ohio Championships made her a NCAA Provisional Qualifier. Dunning is also ranked 15th on the list for the weight throw.
Fellow field athlete Whitney Hartman is ranked fifth in the MAC for an 18.54 meter toss in the weight throw. Hartman is also ranked 12th in the shot put throwing 13.50 meters at the All-Ohio Championships.
Sabrina Forstein would be another field athlete earning a top-10 spot. Forstein would pole vault herself into the sixth place overall reaching a height of 3.66 meters.
In the 60 meter dash, Shantell Lewis placed sixth overall in the MAC. Lewis' quick 7.70 second time at the All-Ohio Championships kept her in the top-10. Lewis would also be part of the 11th place 4x400 meter relay team.
Long jumper Brittani McNeal sprang into seventh place with a distance of 5.72 meters at the Jane Herrmann Invite. McNeal also ran the first leg of the 11th place 4x400 meter relay.
BGSU's distance medley relay team from the All-Ohio Championships would come in at ninth overall in the MAC. The team composed of Carly Wells, Heather Conger, Autumn Dettmann and Saisha Gailliard would run a time of 12:17.91.
Kara Butler would also place in the top-10 of the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:04.52 at the Tom Wright Classic. Butler would also place 14th overall in the 3,000 meter running 10:11.52 at the All-Ohio Championships.
Other athletes ranked top-20 in the MAC include; BGSU 4x400 meter relay team, Brittani McNeal, Heather Conger, Shantell Lewis and Ashley Spates (11), Heather Conger in the 800 meter (13), Autumn Dettmann in the mile (16), Stacey Turak in the weight throw (17) and Rachael Doughty in the 60 meter hurdles (20).
In their last competition, All-Ohio Championships, the Falcons placed third overall and nine of the 12 ranked athletes earned their spots in the MAC.
"I feel the team is ready to get out and give their best effort next weekend." said head coach Cami Wells, "The All-Ohio meet was a complete team effort and we will be looking to build on that effort to finish off the indoor season with our best team performance to date."
Tickets for the MAC Championships will be available at the door of the Kent State University Field House. Two day passes for adults will cost $15 and students $10, single day passes for adults and students will cost $10. Students from MAC schools with a student ID will be charged $2 per day.
