BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – For his part in the sweep of the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers this past weekend, Ryan Peltoma has been named conference Defenseman of the Week by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Brainerd, Minn. native had a three-point weekend, including his first multiple point game of his career on Friday in the Falcons' 5-4 overtime win. After assisting on the third of BGSU's three first-period goals, Peltoma notched the game-winning tally with a mighty strike from the top of the near faceoff circle just thirty-one seconds into the extra frame.
The sophomore defenseman returned on Saturday night and had his second helper of the weekend on Bowling Green's second goal of the day, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead at the time. He finished the weekend with the highest on-ice rating (+4) of anybody that touched the ice on either team that weekend. The Falcons' rode on to win the finale, 4-2, to give them their first weekend sweep since 2008 and are currently riding a three game winning streak.
This is the first such honor for Peltoma after recording just one point in 23 games last season.
