Blake, an All-American defenseman for the Falcons from 1987-90, will be the guest of honor at a fundraising reception hosted by the “Bring Back the Glory” campaign before BGSU's hockey game against Notre Dame. Prestigious NHL television broadcaster and BGSU graduate Mike “Doc” Emrick will emcee the reception and introduce Blake on the ice at Saturday's home hockey game versus Notre Dame.

The reception is open to the public and begins at 5:00 p.m. at Mileti Alumni Center. Tickets are $25 or $100 per person. The $100 ticket includes a $75 tax-deductible gift to the "Bring Back the Glory" campaign, an autographed photo of Blake and recognition of your donation at the event. The deadline for pre-registration is Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and walkups are welcome.
Launched in October 2009, the campaign's goal is $5 million to endow scholarships and enhance the Ice Arena.
Blake will also be honored at the game and drop the ceremonial first puck. Opening faceoff against the Fighting Irish is at 7:05 p.m. He will then be available for an autograph session to be held in the southeast corner of the arena during the first intermission.
As a fourth round selection by the Los Angeles Kings in 1988, Blake joined the team in 1989 for the first of his two stints with the Kings. Most recently with the San Jose Sharks, Blake announced his retirement from the National Hockey League in June after a tremendous 20-year career playing for three teams over that time.
Blake won a Stanley Cup championship in 2001 with the Colorado Avalanche after joining the team mid-season and registering 19 points during a 23-game playoff run. In the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Blake played in 18 games with Team Canada en route to winning a gold medal that year. He also played on Canadian National hockey teams in 1998 and 2006.
He was inducted into the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996 on the first ballot and is a certain consideration for the NHL Hall of Fame upon achieving eligibility.
Emrick earned his doctorate degree from BGSU in Radio-TV Film in 1976. BGSU was also the origin of his nickname, “Doc”. Prior to enrolling at BGSU, Emrick was an undergraduate work at Manchester College (North Manchester, Ind.) and completed his master's degree in radio/television at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) in 1969.
He is most widely known for his broadcasting work in the hockey world, most recently as the lead play-by-play announcer for hockey coverage on NBC and VERSUS. Emrick was also the lead broadcaster for the United States men's and women's hockey teams in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
