Ken Morrow, a member of the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team that defeated the Soviet Union en route to capturing the gold medal in 1980's “Miracle on Ice,” will return to his skating roots at Bowling Green State University.
Morrow, an All-American defenseman for the Falcons from 1976-79, will be the guest of honor at a fundraising reception hosted by the “Bring Back the Glory” campaign subcommittee prior to BGSU's hockey game on Saturday, Feb. 27. Morrow will also be honored during the game.
The “Bring Back the Glory” campaign, launched in October, is raising $5 million to endow scholarships for BGSU's hockey program and enhance its Ice Arena.
Immediately following the Olympics, Morrow joined the New York Islanders, helping them win their first Stanley Cup in 1980. This made him the first player to win the Olympic Gold and an NHL championship in one season. He was a key member of all four Islanders Stanley Cup teams in the '80s.
Morrow, who was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995, is currently director of pro scouting for the Islanders.
The fundraising event will be open to the public. Ticket prices and details are still being finalized. BGSU's Office of Alumni and Development will release more information on the event next week.
