BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University hockey team took time to reflect on the 2009-10 season at their annual spring banquet Tuesday night, recognizing a number of individuals for their excellence and dedication this season.
After a remarkable season where he eclipsed personal highs in assists and points in a season, Kyle Page was mentioned as the recipient or co-recipient for four different awards on Tuesday night. For the third consecutive year, Page was named the team's best defenseman and was rightfully awarded the Jim Ruehl Award for his efforts. He also was named the team's most valuable player and recognized for his leadership this past season after earning the Jim Sears Award and the Dr. Ron Zwierlein Leadership Award.
Page and fellow senior Brian Moore shared the Jack Gregory Scholar-Athlete Award, recognizing excellence both on the ice and in the classroom. Page, a sport management major with an emphasis in marketing, entered the spring semester with a cumulative 3.65 grade-point average while Moore possessed a 3.64 GPA as he completes in degree in Business Pre-Law.
As an important part of the Falcon hockey family, legacies of former Falcon greats were also honored for their contributions to the BGSU hockey program. During the summer of 2009, a group led by four young women fundraised to provide the BGSU hockey locker room with new carpeting that featured a large Falcon logo in the center of the room. For their efforts and contributions Stephanie Wilson, Melissa Pikul, Jennifer Pikul and Shaylynn Galley were honored with the Dr. Tom Wojchiechowski Recognition Award.
Complete award distribution is listed below.
The Falcons finished the 2009-10 season with a 5-25-6 overall record and finished 11th in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association obtaining 23 points over a 4-18-6-5 mark in conference play under interim head coach Dennis Williams.
