The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team used a balanced effort from all four events to secure a 190.225-185.525 win on Sunday afternoon over Illinois-Chicago at home inside Anderson Arena. It was the first meet for both squads.
The Falcons came away with first-place finishes on all four events and won the all-around to top it all off. All-together the Falcons had the top three finishes on vault, two of the top three finishes on beam, had the three highest scores on bars and captured the top four spots on floor to help with the win.
On vault the Falcons as a team posted a score of 48.300, led by junior Danielle Wishart, who led all gymnast with a 9.850. As mentioned, the Falcons took home the top three scores from the event with Dawn Christman finishing second (9.775) and Sunny Marchand (9.725) finishing third.
BGSU (1-0, 0-0 MAC) moved over to the uneven bars in rotation two and extended its lead with the help of a 47.275 on the event. Sunny Marchand's 9.625 led all 12 gymnasts to win the event. Like vault, the Falcons took home the top three spots on the uneven bars with the help of Megan Harrington (9.600) and Monica Eaton (9.525). It was Harrington's first event of her Falcon career.
While the Orange and Brown could only manage a 46.625 as a team on beam, it once again was able to add to its lead in rotation three. Monica Eaton finished in a tie for first with a score of 9.450, while Christman finished third with a 9.425.
The Falcons rebounded nicely on the floor exercise, scoring a 48.025 on their final event of the evening. Christman won the event with a 9.775, the same event she won last season at the MAC Championships. Marchand (9.700), Megan Valentini (9.625) and Wishart (9.525) finished second through fourth.
Christman also won the all-around with a score of 38.425.
Up next for Bowling Green is a trip to DeKalb, Ill., for a showdown with conference opponent Northern Illinois. The dual meet is set for Jan. 23.
