BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – David Solway, a senior on the Bowling Green State University hockey team, has signed a professional contract to play for the Toledo Walleye of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The announcement was made by the Walleye today.
Solway, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, just finished his fourth season with the Falcon hockey team after it became the first team in CCHA history to be the lowest seeded member to advance to the second round of the conference tournament. He finished 2010-11 with five goals, 11 assists and 16 points. He led all forwards on the team with 25 blocks and captained the team to an overall record of 10-27-4, a five-win improvement from the previous year under first-year head coach Chris Bergeron.
Before arriving at Bowling Green, Solway won a Tier-I National Championship and the Clark Cup with the Sioux Falls Stampede in 2006-07. That year he posted 20 goals and 21 assists (41 points) in 56 games en route to the title.
Over his four-year Falcon career, Solway played in 146 games missing only five games due to injury over that time. He finished his college playing career with 31 goals, 42 assists and 73 points, has hit five game-winning goals and has served 174 penalty minutes. He served as the Falcons' captain this season and served as an assistant captain to current Toledo Walleye defenseman, Kyle Page. He also is Bowling Green's representative for the 2010-11 CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The next Toledo Walleye game will be played on the road against the Wheeling Nailers on March 16, where Solway is expected to make his debut. The team will then bring their game back to the Huntington Center on Friday, March 18 to host the South Carolina Stingrays for a 7:00 first draw.
