After seven innings of shutout pitching, the sophomore has been named as one of the conference's top pitchers for the week.
Cody Apthorpe was named the Mid-American Conference Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week by the conference office earlier today. The honor comes after the second-year pitcher tossed his best game in a Falcon uniform, to date.

The sophomore from Windham, Ohio set new career highs for a single outing in innings pitched (7.0) and strikeouts (8) as he contributed toward the Falcons' shutout win over Ball State on Friday, 2-0. Seven of Apthorpe's eight strikeouts were recorded in his first three innings of work, including three strikeouts in the third inning. He allowed only four hits and no runs on the day before handing off the ball to Mike Frank, who finished with the save.
He was also most recently named the Bowling Green Papa John's Male Athlete of the Week for his accomplishment. Apthorpe is now the second BGSU player to be named to a weekly award by the conference after Jon Berti was named last week's MAC East Player of the Week.
The Falcons head on the road to play the University of Michigan on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. before returning back to Bowling Green to host the Dayton Flyers on Wednesday.
