BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The excitement around BGSU Baseball camp continues today after a second Falcon has been taken in this year's MLB Draft. Relief pitcher Ross Gerdeman was selected by the National League's Arizona Diamondbacks in the 35th round with the 1,054th overall pick on Wednesday afternoon.

Gerdeman, a native of Fort Jennings, Ohio, served as the Falcons' most reliable relief option in 2011. The right-hander led the team with a 3.57 earned run average while compiling a 2-1 win/loss record over a team-high 22 appearances, all out of the bullpen. In 58.0 innings pitched, Gerdeman held opposing batters to a .276 batting average, struck out 42 batters and walked only 20 hitters. He surpassed those numbers in conference play holding opponents to a .240 batting average and maintaining a team-low 3.31 ERA over 32.2 innings pitched.
Three times this season Gerdeman tossed five or more innings of relief and threw four innings of relief four different times in 2011. His last three relief appearances were all over four innings. He allowed only two runs in 13.1 innings pitched and struck out 11 hitters while walking three over that time. He struck out a career-high six batters in 5.1 innings of work against Kent State on May 14.
The junior joins classmate Jon Berti (Troy, Mich.) as the second Falcon to be taken in the 2011 MLB Draft and is the 43rd BGSU player in school history to be selected. This is now the tenth time in program history that multiple players have been drafted in the same year. The last time it happened was when Nolan Reimold (2nd round) and Burke Badenhop (19th round) were both selected in the 2005 MLB Draft.
Currently, Gerdeman has not signed a contract with the Diamondbacks.
